We have several rituals for our babies
as I have shared in my previous discussions, ‘mundan’ (tonsuring of hairs on head, grown since birth), is one such.
On 30th of January this year, my son, who lives in Hyderabad, India, took my twin grandsons Aaasu and Nishu to Tirupati temple, got this ritual done. He had made a wish to get this ritual done there.
The shaved hair were offered to God ‘Tirupati’ and thrown in the pond, this temple earns millions of rupees from selling the hairs, even female devotees get the hair on head shaved fully.
Do you have any such or similar rituals?
Please respond, comment on this and share your opinion.
Thanks in advance.

the ritual that i know of (actually it is a religious thing of sort i guess) is for the boys.. not babies. they get circumcised between the ages 5-9.
nothing for the girls that i can remember.

the practice of circumcision in the Philippines dates back to the pre-Hispanic era. the Islamic culture of our datus prescribed circumcision as a rule. the ritual was observed in the southern islands of the Philippines all the way up to the north where, curiously, more Christians carried on with the same custom.

First of all, I have to say that they are certainly some cute little boys.
For us, there is no such ritual of having a child's head shaved like this. We do, however, make a big deal out of a baby's first haircut. When both my daughter and my son had their hair cut for the first time I saved a lock of their hair to keep in their baby books just so they would be able to see what their baby hair looked like when they were little.

We don't have rituals for babies here like that. If you are a Christian, baby's are bapitized/christian usually when they are a few months old in the name of God,at church. Where i went to church as a child there were baptisums, from time to time, during the church service. Now most baptisums are just a family affair for the grandparents, parents and sponsors. It has become that way in my family!
