Hmm, it's not more tiring than taking back-up of normal files? Assuming it is digital photos. I just keep copies of mine on an external harddrive, and I also burn CDs/DVDs so I have a double back-up.
If it is analog pictures it is more complicated. You'd have to either take pictures of them (if it's slides) to keep a digital copy, or get them printed to keep printed copies, or possible take slides of the slides. If you have one of those special reproduction lenses, it is possible.

thanks for ur input...yeah i am actually planning to get another hard drive for my photos....i messed up my photos actually by keeping two backups and completely lost track of it....

I have just started doing this, as my photos are my treasures, so now I am going through them all and backing them up and it is tiring, and I am even getting a lot of them printed out again as the printing from someoutlets is rather cheap...

thanks lilaclady, however i am not intending to store hard copies as it takes up space and over a period of time even they detiorate. have you tired to save and manage on the system. i had a baby last year and have thousands of photos which i cherish but fail to organise them....need to organise myself...:)
