I found a pair of earrings that make me feel like a princess

It is very strange for me to buy dangle earrings. Ever since I had a kitten that latched onto my dangle earrings and tried to make like an extension, I haven't worn dangle earrings. Friday I had a day in town to myself. Bill (my boyfriend) was headed to Los Angeles with his daughter and son in law, so I had the day to myself. I did my errands and decided to go to the Goodwill thrift shop in our town. I cruised the store and found a music box but not much else. Then I checked their jewelry case and there it was! It was a pair of dangle earrings!!! They're silver tone with pink rhinestones set throughout the dangle part. There are little swinging parts that are shaped like flowers. I fell for them on sight and had to buy them. I got out to the car and tried them on. I felt like I had bought the crown jewels for my ears! I felt so beautiful and like a fairy princess. I even am planning outfits to go with the earrings. (that's unusual for me, I'm not big on fashion and planning outfits. I'm a tee shirt and jeans kind of gal) But it is like magic, that's the only explanation for the effect those earrings have had on me. When is the last time you got a piece of clothing or jewelry that made you feel so beautiful? What was it?

I have to say its been a long time. I got my ears pierced to wear earrings and have had nothing but trouble with them, so I quit wearing them. I could wear studs, but wires made them bleed - even after several years of being pierced!

Talking about getting your ears pierced reminds me of a really cute "Mom" story. When I moved home, Mom fell in love with the earring collection I had, and they were all for pierced ears. She couldn't stand earrings (she wore clip-ons) and I kept after her about getting her ears pierced. I would point out darling earrings that she could wear, and when her back was turned I would buy them and stash them. Well after about a year of my sniveling, whining and teasing her about getting her ears pierced she relented and decided to do the dastardly deed. We went to the large town near us and she went into the local jewelry store where they did piercing. She paid her 25 dollars to get the piercing done and the earrings she would wear until the ears healed. She proudly marched up to the chair and sat down. The piercer drew the first dot on Mom's ear and had to take a few minutes to settle on the location for the second dot. As soon as Mom felt the second dot had been made, she bounced up, smiling, and stated "All done? Gee that wasn't bad at all!!!" And headed happily to the door. Her face fell when the piercer stated "That was just the dots for locating the holes, you haven't been pierced yet." Mom's face fell, and she sheepishly sat down and screwed up her face worse than a hundred year old prune waiting for the pain. Of course the rest of us were in the background laughing like crazy at her...we just couldn't help it...she was 63 years old and was worse than a 10 year old getting a shot. The piercer finished with the first earring and Mom never realized it. She was still sitting there with her face screwed up like that ancient prune. The piercer finished the second hole and told Mom she was done...and Mom's expression was priceless. She brightened up and at the same time was very disappointed as she said, "It didn't hurt, I thought it was going to hurt, gee if I knew it wasn't going to hurt I would have done this thirty years ago!!!" Needless to say she started buying earrings that day! After her ears had healed I presented her with a box full of pairs of pierced earrings. There was about a hundred pairs that I had bought for her. She looked in the box in awe. She couldn't believe that I had snuck that many earrings past her; and also bought about 50 pairs that I had shown her. She proudly showed off her newly pierced ears to everyone who would stop long enough to listen. It was so much fun keeping her in earrings! To say I miss her is putting it mildly. There isn't a day that goes by that something doesn't happen to remind me that she is gone. But, I am sure she is watching over me and smiling at everything that is going on. Now, if she would just give me the winning lotto numbers!!!

I bought a lovely new seasonal shirt off the clearance rack. It has a printed design that is done in gold and tiny red and gold beads. Pretty. And perfect to complete an outfit, matches a chiffon skirt I already have. Love it.

I wish I felt comfortable wearing skirts. But with the scars on my left knee from all the surgeries and the fact that I do frequently fall, I'm better off wearing pants. I love chiffon, it is so elegant and lady like. I bet you look like a princess in the outfit. The other thing is the beading on the shirt. The time it takes to hand sew the beads on is incredible in comparison to the cost of the shirt. I bought a string of seed pearls to work into earrings. The hole in them is soooo small, so to fit a beading needle through the hole I would need a needle the size of a hair. I have a couple of beaded shirts that I check constantly to make sure that the beads are all secure. I am planning to do a dressed teddy bear for the fair. She is going to be in a red satin dress and I am going to tack silk rose petals around the base. With each tacked point I am going to place a crystal bead. I don't know for sure yet if I am going to continue the silk petals on up the bodice but I will probably use them along the shoulder straps. I'll post a picture of her when I finish. I got the wild idea when I found the petals on sale at Wal Mart last Friday. There are two shades of red so that there is some depth to the design. Come to think of it I may combine some chiffon with the design if I can find the right color to compliment the colors I am planning.

Oh they sound beautiful and perfect for a night on the town with Bill.. The last time I got something was probably a nice shirt, though that a good 9 months ago or more.

Yes, I would love to see pictures, when you are up to it and next time one of your cats do something funny, try to remember to get a picture of that as well..

This isn't the last time, but the most wonderful time I felt absolutely beautiful. Shortly thereafter, felt absolutely horrible. Mama always made our clothes because Daddy gave her twenty-five dollars for each child to buy school clothes - including winter coats. She was an excellent seamtress and our clothes looked good on us, but, as kids always do, I dreamed of a store bought dress. My brother, who is five years my senior, graduated from high school and business school before going to work. Easter was coming and he took me shopping with his first paycheck. He bought me a stunning olive green dress with a raised design all over it and 'mink' around the three-quarter length sleeves. Added to that gorgeous dress, was a multi-colored shoes and handbag. The dress hugged my figure, which was a nice 36-24-36 at the time and the shoes had 2 1/2 inch heels. My first time out of little girl shoes. When we got home, he took an enormous amount of time making me walk with those shoes on and a book on my head, so that by Sunday, I was an expert. I ran in to tell Mama all about the wonderful outfit, forgetting she had been working most of the week on a new dress for me for Easter. "Oh, that's pretty. You'll look like an angel," she said, but her eyes glistened a little too bright. "This way you'll have a new dress for school after the holiday." Mama never came right out and asked why I didn't want to wear her dress, but eventually those too bright eyes sunk in and I knew she was hurt badly over my choice. So, dear friend, it is possible to feel like a princess and an ogre in a very short time. Hugs, Maggie

I too had a mother that was an excellent seamstress. She made all of my clothes from birth until I was 15. At age fifteen I sewed all my own clothes. I had once dreamed of owning a store bought outfit. An organization I belonged to had a fashion show and all of the girls chose outfits from the local department store. I fell madly in love with the outfit I had chosen, but never had the guts to ask my parents to buy it for me, even though it came to about $20 with tax. I knew that raising two children was too much on their salaries and my wanting an outfit like that would tax them even more. I had a brother, but he would never consider buying me something like an outfit. In fact he would either steal or beat me up until I gave him what he wanted for his girlfriends. When I turned 17 my folks gave me a credit card to that department store. Father about flipped figuring I would go crazy buying tons of clothes. Mom stated "Wait and see, we can always take the card back". I did go on a shopping spree so to speak. Father had frothing foaming fits when he saw the bags of clothes. Mom just smiled. They waited for the bill to come in from the department store and Father about choked. He figured that I had spent several hundred dollars on the clothes, but the bill he received was for about $15! I even gave him the money to pay the bill. I got 4 tops, 3 skirts, 2 pairs of pants and a pair of shoes for my money...everything was on sale. Father never said another word about the card. You do bring to mind one day that I was feeling pretty good. This is unusual for me because I am in such constant pain. I was going to town and got dressed up for the trip. I even did my make up. Mom commented on how great I looked so I knew I looked good. I went outside to open the gate to the house and a neighbor came by. Of course you always stop and talk to your neighbors around my complex, so I said hello. First words out of the neighbor's mouth were "Are you feeling okay? You look terrible!" About that time Mom came out and I went inside, washed my face, changed my clothes (into my usual jeans and tee) and went back outside in absolute misery from pain. So much for feeling good that day!! I can see the humor in it now, but it really blew my day badly. Mom couldn't understand the change until I told her several hours later.
