Child Abuse Still Making Head Lines

I have just read a story on Yahoo about a 9 year old girl who died because her grandmother forced her to run for 3 hours straight for taking some candy that belonged to her grandmother. This story enraged me, because for a 9 year old to lose her life over something so petty it really makes me wonder why some people are chosen to be parents. I don't want to turn this discussion into a tirade about abusive parents, what i would like is for anyone who has experienced child abuse in their life to tell their story. Tell how this child abuse made you feel, and how it affects you today. What I hope is that someone who may be abusing their child will read these stories and think really hard about changing their ways. Please people this is an important topic and I ask all of you to share and give your thoughts on solutions to this problem.

Yeah, my father made me stand for about an hour in mid day - on hot concrete road without any footwear. I must've been around 7 or 8. I have taken a lot of physical abuse from my parent and others. Yes, it affects our personality. I think I seek somebody who would always be on my side like fairy godmother of Cinderella. We get scared of telling the parents truth. We cannot honestly express what we like, and what we dont. We get confused as to what the parent wants and doesnt. There is a sense of defiance as well as we grow up, resentment..lot of sheeeet.

There were one incident too many to recall each one perfectly. But I did cry a lot. He consoled me afterwards. But my feet hurt ..there were blisters and it was all yellow, white, and dark pink for days. That is what I recall. I think there should be exams for parenting. If the person doesn't know how to bring up a child, he or she should not be allowed to have one. Seriously..there should be licensing..

I wouldn't blame any child for feeling resentment in that situation. Standing on hot concrete with no shoes seems really harsh. How did you cope with the abuse?

The grandmother was the one who gave her the punishment and apparently the mother knew about it cause she was arrested too.

Yes. Child abuse is a universal concern. We used to hear news about child abuse in almost all places. This is very sad, considering that those child are innocent and should be taken cared of. Good that we have this body whose concern is to protect the rights of children. That's why you are right in encouraging those who experience abuses to ask help from agencies who are handling cases of child abuse, like in our place the DSWD and even the local units of the government.

Children who can mange it should seek out help, but for those who cant we need to remain vigilant. We have the Department of Child Services in the U.S.

Hi Phil. Unbelievable this story is. If true, it only lend to the age-old adage about the inhumanity of the human soul. Anybody who kills a child out of one's convenience or stupidity should be treated as such. They got no place in a civilized world.

I don't understand how taking a candy bar warranted that kind of punishment. I hope that candy was worth the life of that little girl. The mother and grandmother deserved to go to jail.

I read this too and it broke my heart. I am glad they are locked up. They deserve to have the same treatment done to them though, that would be more fair! I never experienced physical abuse from my parents but more verbal and mental abuse. From my father especially. I was terrified of him. If he told me to put something somewhere he would scream and curse at me if I put it in a slightly different spot. Things like that. All my friends were terrified of him too because he constantly screamed and cursed over everything. He always told us to shut up because children were meant to be seen and not heard. If you have ever seen Matilda my father was just like her father! I have low self esteem and I have a hard time with having a boss at work because I fear them as if its my father all over again.

People who abuse don't give a rat's behind about what that person is feeling or they wouldn't do it to begin with!!! It doesn't matter if it's an adult, a child, or an animal...an abuser just doesn't give a chit!!!
