Are Catholics Really That Against in Science And They Always Prefer Natural?

I read about the Spanish inquisition from the past in the Philippines and not only in the Philippines, but in it is also to other countries. I also watch on youtube that Catholics from the past are against in science. For them, they consider science as a work of a devil. So, is this the reason why every time there are new tools from science to introduce, Catholics are always against it? It is because they believe that natural is from God while science is from devil? Microchips are also considered from devil according to some Catholic believers. They say it is a sign of 666. When R.H. Bill is introduced in the Philippines, the Catholics are against it. R.H. Bill is a tool from science. When I explained about a test tube baby that I heard on forum, my friend is against it. I said, this tool helps those women who do not want to suffer in pain if giving birth to a child, especially if she had a congenital heart block. She is a Catholic believer. We have different beliefs. I believe in science and I believe in God. I do not ignore God just because of science. I believe that God gave us reason why we need science too, to help us in our lifestyle. Are Catholics really against in science? That is why they always ignore all the helpful tools from science and the Catholics still choose all kinds of natural method? What would happen to them? Are they going to stay forever as being traditional without any changes in the future? I am just wondering why.

I just do not like this reality. Haha. Actually not all Catholics are like this, many are not still morons to avoid science. I am a catholic and I believe in their teachings however, I somehow opposed them when it comes to issues which is related to science which they don’t really have a knowledge and they only base their opinions in the bible which I do not like especially to catholic priests. Personally, I mostly believe in science even though if sometimes it opposes the teachings of the Catholic Church. Because we must know, Catholic Church must know that they are not only the religion in the world and they can’t control the world. There are many religions in the world which sometimes oppose the Catholic Church and also we can all became atheist or make our own beliefs. Because, religions are only made by man; the bible is made by man, unless they can show a copy of it that it was made by the creator. just to clear, i am still a catholic and i do not always opposed them. sometimes i only based my beliefs to reality and science.

I was also baptized as a Catholic, but I am not that religious. He he. I believed in science too and I am a moderate realistic type of person. I learned this about Roman Catholic in my lesson about Jose Rizal during his life in 19th century. We have a Spanish inquisition in our country, Philippines and Roman Catholic church is the only religion in the Philippines. That is according to a history and so, I always kept wondering why our country have not changed since the Spaniariads colonizers. I searched on the internet and saw a youtube, and it says that in the past, Roman Catholic before is somewhat against in modern science and it is because they thought it came from a devil. I try hard to understand the past and the present days. I realized that Roman Catholics are so prone to a natural method than any tools that came from science. I tried to understand it and now, it came one answer to my mind. The reason why our country Philippines have not changed at all since the Spaniards came to our country is that, they still believes in natural and anything that against in natural, is a sin from God even though our social economy is low, and our society has low equality.

There are many religions here in the Philippines, but 80% are all Catholic believers. This is according to a religion survey. I studied that during 19th century, our major religion is the Catholic. It was during Spaniards who have a larger religious intolerance to other religion here in the Philippines. That is why during the life of Jose Rizal and that was 19th century, there are no other religions but only Catholics. Catholics is also brought by the Spaniards. Spaniards who were also colonized our country. Now, we have freedom to worship and we are now free to appreciate other religions. This is the reason why Catholic believers are make up of 80% because of the history that was once rooted in our country. Have you noticed? Our government are also make up of Catholic believers that is why before they implement laws that would help our filipino citizen and our country, they would first ask the filipinos. This is the democratic country so they would ask first the filipino people and because of the belief system in the Catholic believers plus the CBCP (Catholic Bishop of the Philippines) that make up of 80%, their voices are so strong. So even if the laws are so good especially if it includes using alternative tools like science, that 80% believers would disagree because they believe that all must be in a natural method even if it some would help us in the future.

I do not think it is Catholics in general who are afraid of or against science, so much as it is the Catholic Church - which is lead less by the Pope and more by the consensus of a few individuals in the upper levels. Just ask Penn & Teller on their now infamous show - the name of which is an explicative, so I can't type it here. That in and of itself is also BS.

Its not so much that catholic people are against Science. It is the Catholic Church cannot abide (is afraid of) Science because the Church cannot prove it's beliefs. Science on the other hand proves each scientific fact it uncovers, and science makes the world a better place. If it wasn't for science, my mother would still be carrying water by the bucket, from a frozen creek, to heat on a wood-stove, so she could wash the clothes by hand. Is it any wonder the church hates science? The church has had 2000 years to make the world a better place and has been a miserable failure!

I think we own a lot to the catholic believers for their contribution to science.

Catholic believers for their contribution to science? How I wish I knew what they contribute in science, so I guess they also believe in evolution.

Actually you will be surprised to find out how many catholics were big scientists. The founder of Big Bang theory was a catholic priest. The founder of genetics was a catholic priest. One of the biggest evolutionists named Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a catholic priest. There are probably thousands of them with huge contribution to science. Unlike what you have been told the science was developed by religious people and mostly by catholics.

No not all Catholics are against science or natural methods. That is an individual choice a person will make based on there own thoughts and beliefs. I was raised Catholic and all my life going to Catholic church and Sunday school they never taught us that other things outside of the Church was right or wrong. I personally believe in Science first above anything else.

ShyBear88, we are just the same. I also believe in science first before anything else. I have already known about some of the bible verse and I also believe and faith in God, but details explanations is also very important to me that is why I also believe in science. Without science, it is difficult for me to believe in God. Science means knowledge therefore, God gave us knowledge and reason to create a healthy lifestyle for the future.

That religion does not prevent science but encouraged for the benefit of the human and otherwise as we knew how to eliminate the disease and the invention of tools to help human life and to facilitate the provision of his time and communicate with others, such as telephone and computer hat is important to offer the flag should not be contrary to the will of God or lead to the Almighty that makes him angry.

Yes. I agree with you. It is just that I notice some Catholic is extreme when it comes to science which sometimes they do not understand what would benefit us in the future.

Actually, this could not be further from the truth. I know many Catholics who are completely for science, and they feel that they wouldn't be alive today if it were not for science. Many Catholics are firm believers in science. Yes, they believe in God and Jesus, but they also believe that "God helps those who help themselves." Science is just that. Science is help for those who need it.

I do not think it is only the catholics who are againts sciences, and so on. But rather our personal beliefs and values. I actually do not have a 100% decision with regard to this Bill because i have not read the contents of it. I know there is more than what the media is telling us. Science and Technology are gifts to human - we are the best species of this world and we are gifted with the knowledge from God. that is why we have access to cures, medicines, and science, and gadgets, and tools that would enable us not disable us. I agree with you that a woman may want to be a mother and technology can help - but i think partly the belief is torn between waiting for the time, and waiting for God to give our child to us naturally or we make a child for us right when we want it. It is mixed with our values, and our faith. There is always a value at waiting, too without having to totally discard what science can bring. But anything unnatural may require us to give back or give up something else... and that i think at this point is what i am not willing to risk. Put it this way, a cancer medication may help lower the cancer cell growth, but it diminishes your immune system, and so on...

Okay. There is no perfect here on earth. We have pros and cons here on earth and I believe that God gave us the reason and he also gave us science to help us in our daily need. In the natural method has also a pros and cons. It depends on the people of which one best is good for them. I read that there some succesful test tube baby and they are very thankful to God but some believers feel that it is against from God, so I think it depends on the belief system of each individual.

I don't believe that all the Catholics are against science, it is a thing of the past now, nowadays we see the Vatican working with a lot of technology, they pay for scientific experiences and so on. I am not a Catholic, but I was, and when I was, I studied a lot about their history, and I know that it is not a good history and they did a lot of things to stop science, but the I know that the things are different now. thanks for the discussion.

Oh yes. It is not really a good history because even in the 19th century, Spaniards came here in the Philippines. They were the one who brought the Catholic religion here in the Philippines. Based on our history, the friar ruled and abuse filipino citizen here in the Philippines and it has also an inquisition. That is why during 19th century, our major religion is Roman Catholic, but now, we are free and we are thankful to Jose Rizal, our national hero. We have now different religions here in our country, but still the population of Catholic believers are make up of 80% because of the Spanish abuse and inquisition from the past. It is now different in the present days and I also now understand why they create a movie about Angels and Demons, because Angels and Demons is a story about Religion and Science. They are fighting each other and that is what the movie portrays about Angels and Demons.
