Do you have any superstitions that you truly believe?

I was jokingly doing an anti rain dance. Hoping to move the storm that is directly overhead out of the area by 8 am tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is the last day of school with students. We have field days and a field trip planned....all of which happen outdoors. All of my games are already packed away, along with most of my movies. It would be a difficult time scrambling to come up with enough to do for a full day if we are stuck indoors. That led me to thinking about superstitions. I am not a superstitious person, nor is my husband, but we have a friend that if she spills salt takes some and throws it over her left shoulder. She thinks that a broken mirror is bad luck, and stopped dating a guy because he had a black cat.

Once when we were young and our kids were small, it was a very dry summer on the farm, and our crops were withering for lack of water. The kids (we had 4 boys) had been reading about First Nation people (Indians) and how they used to do a rain-dance to make it rain. So we said,"OK we will do a rain dance!" So we danced around the kitchen table, and chanted as we jumped, first on one foot and then on the other. Shortly after that it began to cloud over, and soon it was pouring, and then it began to hail, great big hailstones which broke the glass from all the windows on the north side of the house! For obvious reasons we never did a rain dance again!

My anti-rain dance did the job. It was a bit cooler than I would have liked, but the kids still played in the water, but there was no more rain.

Better not think too much about such things. - Some are true following logic and science.Other are nonsense.
Some supersititions has some science merit in it which i follow , for example do not cut finger nails or hair at night , well those old days lantern are used , hence it is dark and may injured yourself especially at night when u r sleepy. However modern days with bright light it is nonsense just made sure u r not sleepy. While the mirror breaking bad luck is more of your consience only.

Safety superstitions seem to be the most common ones.

hahaha.. just dont laugh out loud for that .. as even am a bit superstitituos about things .. but i feel there must be a logic behind atleast one out of 10 beliefs .. so i would not like to expand on that :)

I don't believe any superstitions since I believe in the science. Although currently the science can not explain anything, but it is just because we haven't found out the truth yet due to our technology. One day the truth will be found out and we will understand that it is not based on the superstition. I love China

Superstitions are fun things to talk about. I'm not very big on this stuff, but I do have one superstition that I still follow. I got this from my mother, and I think there's really no harm in believing in it because it is also a precautionary measure, or at least that's how I look at it. My mother would not let us use any sharp objects during Holy Week, because if we get a scratch or cut, it will take long to heal. At first, I thought it only takes some caution to avoid being hurt, but I also didn't want to take chances, so I just heed her warning and out of custom, I'm still being conscious about it till the present.

I think that a lot of superstitions have a basis in staying safe. That does not mean you have to be superstitious to be safe, but if it helps people to be safer, then no harm done.
