Here in my country, we have noodle on our birthday. Noodle here means long life, and it is said that one cup only has one noodle in it. The one who eat it should it whole and not make it into pieces.
I also here that in Korean, seaweed soup is a important dish for one's birthday.
How about things in your place?

Noodle is long and thin while easy to be stranded.
So people think it likes life, long but easy to be troubled by many reason's. So people eat noodle in their birthday and try to finish it once. If the noodle is stranded when having it, that means something unhappy may happen in the next year.

You are right. The noodles are important for our birthday since it can mean long life. Sometimes the steamed buns are important especially for the birthday of the elders. Today the birthday is not so important for me. I don't want it to remind me that I grow one year old:) I want to eat whatever I like in my birthday.
I love China

I have never heard Steamed buns for the birthday before. My mother have told that, when she was young, she could have meat on her birthday for at that time meat was precious food material in China. But now to many children cake is a necessary thing in a birthday. I think with the life level had been improved, more and more things will become important thing in a birthday.

I think you should have your favorite food, whatever it is, on your birthday. A good home cooked meal is a great way to spend the day. If your favorite is from a restaurant and you have the money, then why not go out and celebrate!

Oh no, I'm happy enough for being remembered
lol, there are people outhere for example with a husband that don't even remember that date, that is very sad.
But should be Vegan though, would never hurt them in anyother 364 days, not even in my birthday. Did you know it's possible to make cakes and cupcakes without milk or eggs? Me neither! I wasn't eating them for a while, now every weekend or so I can have a sweet party, hehehe.

We people don't have such belief or things. We just eat noodles on any day for fun. We people in kerala used to prepare payasam on birth days and used to distribute to other family members. This is just to share the happines of the special day.

I think food in many case is a part of culture.
So many times we do not know why we do it, but we like to keep the tradition with as as the root of the culture. Many old people try their best to pass those down to us. And I think we also has the responsibility to make our children know that and keep that.

I have not had a birthday yet without a birthday cake. I'm not sure if that is strictly a family thing or not but it is very popular here in the US.

In my country we usually have to two different kinds of cake when we celebrate a birthday. One of those cakes is called "brunsviger" and the other cake is called "lagkage". The brunsviger cake is usually decorated with candy, and it is very delicious. If a child is celebrating his or her birthday the brunsviger cake sometimes look like a girl or a boy with a head, legs and arms etc. If an adult celebrates his or her birthday the cake doesn't look like a person and sometimes we skip the candy, too. Lagage is a cake that consists of several layers and it is often decorated with whipped cream, fruits or other kinds of things.

Birthday here on our country usually includes spaghetti and pancit. Also fried chicken, cake and ice cream. There are also some other dishes specially if you have money to prepare more. So it depends on how much you will spend on it or how much you can spend.

Traditionally here in my country when one of our family members birthday we served different kinds of noodles for long life and something sweet for the better future, I dont know if its true but we still following it. But during my birthday I always cooked penne with red sauce, garlic bread and served with very cold coke.

I prefer spaghetti though, since they are similar..but much more delicious.
