I am fade up of the frequent brownouts, it makes me angry and upset, which is not good for me at all. So I asked the electrician who fitted sub-meters in my rented houses has fitted Uninterrupted Power Supply in my house; where I live.

It is Pure Sine wave generator by EXCIDE, running on a EXCIDE INVA TUBULAR Inverter battery, with this my CFL lights, fans, televisions and computers can run up to 4 hours during brownouts; we feel relaxed though it cost 20,000 rupees.

We can’t run the air conditioners, electric irons though.

I guess I did the right thing.
How you manage during blackouts at your place?
Have you installed any such device, will you like to have this?

Please share and comment on this.
Thanks in advance.

We've actually been very lucky in the time that we've lived in our home because of the fact that we've never experienced a blackout here. So, that hasn't been something that we've had to deal with here.
However, when we lived with my mother, there were a couple of times that we experienced loss of electricity for several days as a result of ice storms. When we had those, we actually had inverters that we would run from the car and operate a couple things in the house so we would have some light and entertainment.

hi prof, since you already invested on on the pure sine wave inverter, if I may suggest, you can put up solar panels ( plenty of sun in our countries) or a wind turbine generator, make it go through a charge controller, then to a battery bank ( gel type or agm but not ordinary car batteries), then hook your inverter into that, think that would give of more power, and what's good is it is free energy! Just do your computations, I know you are more knowledgeable than me, your the prof and most probably I'm just your poor student
, good luck I'm also preparing here because typhoon season is fast approaching. Oh before I forget, led bulbs will drain the battery less, but as you mentioned in your other post, it's not yet available in your place, replace cfl when it's available already which is not far from now during brownouts, good luck my friend

No I don't since were only 2 here in my house. When the brown out is whole day we manage to go out like on the mall where there is a power supply. Only who have businesses here have the generators and big houses that can afford to buy.

For black outs you can invest in a generator. However, black outs here do not usually last much more than a few hours at most. So one only needs to have candles or flash lights or even go elsewhere til the power is restored. It's no big deal until the kids think they have to open the fridge numerous times and let the cold out so our food spoils.

hi professor,
summer thing makes it a pain for many who get sudden brownouts for long periods. your solution is a very wise investment on your part. everybody would say you did the right thing. who cares about the amount? it is an investment for the present and future use.
have a nice day.

Prtofessor Sir:
You have done the right thing of fixing inverter. It cost Rs.20000 but I am sure it would have brought a lot of happiness and lessened anxieties. At least you are able to use it for fans and lights and that is a very good thing. I think you can use it for computer also you can mylot without interruption.
best wishes

Almost every State in India face power cut during summer.
Specially the states in south..
In my place also there was power cut till yesterday.
But now the government has decided to not make load shedding/ power cut.
But we don't have inverter or UPS to tackle the brown out.
No other way than adjusting to it.
Don't have money to buy UPS..
Will sweat during brown outs

Well, I live in Italy, and I must say that in my city (Genoa), fortunately the power black-out are very rare. In your case, I think you have made ??the right decision in installing UPS or uninterruptible power supply. This also for the fact that the frequent power surges in the long run can damage equipment electric and in particular, just the computer.
Of course you have to see how many volt-ampere holding your UPS, you obviously do not think to connect the entire electrical load of your home.
