In this series, let's discuss the prospects of Euro favorites. Let's start with Spain who are one of the tournament favorites. Spain is led by "Saint" Casillas and boasts of some of the best midfield talents in the world. Up front, they are bit short with a key injury to David Villa and dodgy form of Torres. In the defense, there is a re-jig which is going on with injury to Puyol meaning a change in guard at the back. In Del Bosque they have a veteran coach who has won everything there is to win from the Champions League to the World Cup.
What do you rate are Spain's chances to defend their title at the Euros?
Cheers!

i think spain get new talented player..they get adrian in the right time
sometimes i think adrian can be super sup..
santi cazorla maybe alternatives too when the duet of barcelona, xavi and iniesta can`t play good..maybe spain can play use winger too, and play jesus navas as right winger and santi cazorla as left winger..amazing..

Spain is the number 1 favorite to win the cup. David Villa's absence is unfortunate but it is not the end of the world (Europe) for Spain. With so many capable strikers to choose from, especially with the 2 Fernandos of Torres and Llorente, anyone of them can do the job well. Not to forget Spain's midfielders are who's who in world football. They will provide as well as score.
They have 3 good goalkeepers, in fact, too good that maybe Reina can play central defender to take over from Puyol as well as earning playing times. Their defense may be the only weaker department, comparatively and relatively speaking as they are still top players in their own right. I like Gerard Pique. With their strength in attack, their defense would not be pressed too hard. If anything, just ask the strikers to score more goals than their own defenders can concede.
Spain has too many talented players sitting on the bench, waiting to shine on the international stage. Who gets to play will all do well. Of course, the best team doesn't always win. I hope luck is with them. But I feel the other 3 teams in Spain's group will need more luck than Spain.

I think there is no arguing with you on the midfield and goalkeeping positions. As Spain probably has the best players in the world in both these positions. But up front now that Villa is injured and Torres' form is dodgy, it might be one area of concern. I think the defense is also aging and a fast attacking unit like that of Germany could actually run rings around them.
Cheers!
