I'm from malawi and find it strange that before the adoption when I told people where I was from they would say 'oh in south africa'!!! i would get mad and shout, south africa is a country in it's own right, it's not the whoeof the continent you know!!! Now when I say I'm from malawi people go oh, where madonna got her baby from!!! Just so annoying, do share your thoughts on whether yopou know where countries are on the globe, do your children know any better than you?

I don't know where alot of places are.But I am one to look it up to see where it is at. I know when my son was learning where all the different countries was. We would get a map from the internet, we would print it out. Than make a puzzle out of it. and see who could figure out where what when where first. It helped him to learn the names and where they went.

I always try to make things fun for my kids when it comes to learning. It seems if it isn't fun for them. They don't learn it.

that's a great way of teaching children isn't it, it's good that you made the effort to educate your child about the rest of the world. i always think that if parents started working with their kids form an early age they ould do so much better in school and would probably be mor einterested in carrying on with their education into later years and higher qualifications!!! well done for taking the first steps and doing the world puzzle with you son, don'en't matter that you are not sure where everything is, atleast you have coem across it answering

I have to say my geography is terrible, I even have trouble finding my way to my own front door! But, yes, I'd heard of Malawi long before the Madonna adoption, funnily enough, I didn't think it was in Africa. Sorry for my ignorance.

No problem atleast you had heard about it before the adoption, it just relaly gets to me when people are so ignorant and don't know a thing or make an inch of and effort to find out for themselves. Well, you knew it existed, which is a lot better than momst, so I commend you on that, don't worry you didn't knowhwere it was, common thing really, it's so small anyway. thanks for being brave enough to shre, cheers

Hi, sure I knew about Malawi pre-Madonna, and my kids know about Malawi now and know nothing about that adoption. I've had the good fortune to visit Malawi a couple of years ago, visiting our field workers in Chiringa and spending a little time Blantyre. I think the Malawi people are the most welcoming and friendly people I ever met. It made me so happy to be working with a group that works to help farmers improve their situation around Chiringa and elsewhere. Probably most Westerners know of Malawi through the lake and the tropical fish trade, but my interest was first sparked by an interest in stamps and then later through links to a Christian couple who had started working in Malawi. I show my children lots of photos of your country and hope to visit again next year. Also my workplace is involved in a regional development programme near Lilongwe with many local organisations here in Norfolk, UK getting involved. We've been learning about Malawi for quite a while now. I would say that I know where most countries of the world are because I had my interest in geography and politics stimulated as a child through philately. Are you the only person from Malawi who posts on here? Best Wishes - Jim
