How can we keep our older children out of trouble in today's society?

The only way to ensure that children stay out of trouble is to lock them in a cupboard. But as that's not recommended, the best thing that we can do is provide them with the knowledge, self respect, confidence and alternatives to avoid it as best they can, and to support them when they don't manage it.

Well said.People are going to make mistakes but they have to know that does not mean we love them less. All we can do is teach them the difference between right and wrong, give them morals and listen to them . Subtle(and not so subtle) clues are there if we listen with our eyes and ears.

Violence knows no boundaries and even neighbourhood watches can not see everything.Grandparenting always seemed like a cool thing when I was growing up(I did not have any)but now it takes the extended family to help raise a child.More and more grandparents are even taking the responsibilty of being the primary child carer. There is only so much that can be done though.
