Did you know that sweetened condensed milk and a little food coloring makes a wonderful fingerpaint? It dries shiny and it doesn't matter if the little ones lick their fingers. Beware about keeping the finished pictures though, the ants love them.

Well my little ones are all grown up now... 29 and 26 but I was known to use catsup, pudding, even mustard for finger paints. They can eat it and as you said you don't keep it around long. I never had heard of condensed milk with food colouring though. I'll keep it in mind for the grandchildren when/if they come along.

I let the babies paint with pudding on the high chair trays but I never would have thought of ketchup and mustard. I hope your grandchildren enjoy the condensed milk fingerpaint. You sound like a fun grandparent. =)

I would never have thought of that but it does make sense. That way as you pointed out don't have to worry about the kid eating it. At the age they would be using it I wouldn't be too worried about keeping the art work but I'd be more interested in the kid having fun safely.

Good tip, but watch eating it, the next paint she uses may not be so user friendly

That is why this is ideal if you are letting smaller kids fingerpaint.

We make edible playdough sometimes too! Did they use peanut butter in their recipe?

That's a neat idea. This may sound like a dumb quetion, but the pictures don't spoil? Or smell funny? I would think that milk might develop an odor.

Usually the "paint" dries and has a super shiny appearance. I have never had a problem with them smelling bad but we don't usually keep them around for long because we have to make room for new pictures.
