Warning! Bats in Christmas Trees! |
|
On the news last night was a story about a lady who went to a Christmas Tree farm. She bought a tree and took it home. She had it set up and was decorating it. While she was putting the lights on she thought the tree had poked her. When she looked at her arm she noticed it was a bite mark. Then she saw the bat. Upon investigation, they found out that this Christmas Tree farm uses bats to eat the insects from the tree. They don't use pesticides. Seems like a good idea but I think they need to inspect the trees better before sending them home with someone. I would freak if I found a bat in the Christmas tree.

2. srhelmer (5533) | 4 years ago | This is one of the reasons I don't use live Christmas trees. Those poor bats now need to find somewhere else to live.

cowgirl2701 (840) | 4 years ago | I haven't had a live tree in years because one of my sons is allergic to them. I am sure there are other trees on the farm that aren't ready to cut for the bats to live in. It is better than using pesticides.

srhelmer (5533) | 4 years ago | Actually, I was just joking above. The reasons I really don't have a live tree. 1. They are expensive. Not so much where I couldn't afford one but enough where I just think it's a waste of money on something that will be on the curb a couple weeks after Christmas. I would rather spend the money on presents. 2. They are a fire hazzard because I know I will forget to water it.

cowgirl2701 (840) | 4 years ago | Well I guess you don't have live plants. LOL!!! Don't think they would live long without water.

4. ChewySpree (1560) | 4 years ago | I saw that on the news too! That made me glad I have an artificial tree, even though it doesn't smell as nice, I don't have to worry about what it in the tree or worry about cutting down trees.

6. Khokhonut (525) | 4 years ago | Oh my gosh!!! I think that would give me a heart attack. There has to be a better way for the farm to keep insects off of the trees. ::::::heebie jeebies::::::

7. Asylum (3404) | 4 years ago | The company that supplied the tree should be ashamed of themselves for using such an irresponsible way of controlling insects. I cannot think of a worse start to Christmas than being bitten by a bat in your Christmas tree. I would have been seriously concerned if this had happened to me, since bats have been known to carry rabies. Incidents are rare, but that would not have alleviated my concern in any way.

cowgirl2701 (840) | 4 years ago | They should have at least checked the tree better before she took it home.

8. margieanneart (16820) | 4 years ago | Wow, what an experience for you. I never had that, but, once I bought a tiny orange tree. It had a pigmy rattle snake inside, and I didn't know it for a week, when it came out of the tree as I was watering it. Now that is dangerous too.
