Medical Coding and Billing from home: a possibility?  

I have researched this topic for another person a year or so ago. My findings are that most if not all of those sites are in reality scams. They do send you forms and programs but they do not help you find work.

I suggest if you are interested in doing this from home you contact several local medical offices etc to see if there is a need for the services...and if there is a need for them to out source this job, then ask what programming they prefer and if they will make it available to you.

Most of the programs are scams- there are some real jobs out there- go to WAHM.com and check out the message boards- they have TONS Of oppertunites there (not all of them are medical coding and billing, though) and none of them charge a fee or anything like that. It's a great resource for all stay at home/work at home moms. I personally work at home (I don't do medical coding and billing, though) and I have many friends who work at home as well =) Good luck!

I've paid over two hundred dollars for the course to do medical billing from home, I never finished it cuz it was difficult to study with the kids always needing my attention, then I had to go through the process of starting up my own business, that's what they didn't tell me before I bought it, and there is no refund policy, so I was scammed into it. Oh well one of the many scams out there. I don't think there is such a thing as legitmate data entry work from home, been scammed on that also, I think everyone is doing scams just to make a few bucks so be very careful.

if you have not check the website wahm.com try checking it.. they have free lists of companies that hires telecommuters. but of course always take extra precautions in applying for a work at home job.. and NEVER pay for a job.

I am a medical assistant, and I have always done this in the workplace, but I no longer am able until I go to school and receive a diploma or degree in Medical billing and coding. I started school last year for this (but had to stop due to financial hardship and other problems) with the goal in mind to work at home. It is very possible to do this at home, I dont know about doing it if you dont have experience or a degree. It used to be that it wasn't a big deal for the medical secretaries to do this, but it has become so complex that now everyone wants you to be schooled in this area. I am very skeptical of the internet for this particular job and data entry also, although I would love to do both and am still pursuing it. I suggest maybe taking out a personal add, or making a special resume and posting it on line on Career Builer, Yahoo Jobs, Monster.com, to name a few, and let employers know you are wanting to do this. Maybe even contacting Dr's office's, by submitting your resume and a specialized cover letter letting them know you can do this service at home. There are a bunch of people who really do this for a living, mostly ex-nurses that I knew of....I know alot of nurses and still cant figure out how to get the ball rolling with this. I am a stay at home mom as well and this would be great. My counselor at school last year said they have had about 10 people who graduated from there ending up being able to obtain employment at home doing medical billing. So it is very possible!

Check out www.wahm.com there are many legitimate ones out there. You may have to pay for a background check but the pay is good once you get in. But never pay anything for a job unless it is for a background check. The women and men on that board at wahm are great and it has a lot of info. Go to the message boards and click on Telecommuting Moms you should find all the info you need there.

There are also a growing number of people working as 'virtual assistants,' billing & coding could be part of this. Google virtual assistant and you'll find some sites, including the profession's official organization, it might list some legit places to look for jobs.

Hi! There's one more thing you should know about getting into medical billing/coding. It's very difficult to do correctly. The regulations change frequently and if you bill incorrectly, the doctor doesn't get paid. You really have to know the job thoroughly and keep up with the changes.
