Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, Wiggles, Hi-5, Cars... you name it they've done it. And merchndised it and commercialised it until kids are numb to it.
Why do you think kids go through crazes? Do the media and toy companies influence children's interests or do childrens interests influence both the media and companies that make toys, television shows and s forth?

LOL hearing those names makes me cringe :-) thankfully my kids are out of the Pokemon, Blues Clues etc.
Of course as they get older the crazes tend to get more expensive: Tamagochis (sp) those scanner things (sorry I can't think of what they're called at the moment etc.
The thing is that a lot of them just keep coming back - or never really die.
Take the humble yo-you for example, it was a big thing when I was a kid (and boy was I good at it ;-) - then a few years ago, my son was constantly spinning one. Then forgot about it for awhile, now he's right back into it again - of course they're pretty fancy nowadays - back in my day they were plain ole red coca-cola ones - now they have flashing lights and special coloured string.
