Do you buy stocks online?

I been lately thinking about gambling. The best legal way to go is purchasing stocks but I do not have a good knowledge about it. I was wondering if people here buy stocks online and can help me out with some questions. Firstly, I want to start out very slow purchase, which broker is the best & cheap with max amount of industries I can choose such as Scotrade, etrade etc? Secondly, is there a limitations on purchasing stocks or gaining profit? I mean, if you get lucky, can you make over millions at one time? How does this work? Once you make a screeen name and pw, you search companies and then just click on it as buy and if you see its a good time to sell, you click on sell? Is that how simple it is? Sort of like purchasing something from Ebay? Whats the trick/catch to it other than loosing money if you don't play it smart? Also, how many stocks do you usually buy from one company to be on the safe side? Please explain in good detials if you know about stocks.
