Who is the cheapest person you know, and what do they do that makes them so cheap? A friend of mine's mom washes out Ziploc bags and reuses them, and that seemed a bit much to me.

i don't think what your friend did was wrong. washing zip locks and reuse them after. it's a good way of recycling things. atleast, she gets to lessen somehow her contribution on garbage in this world. i say this because i do the same like your friend is doing. i even fold grocery bags and reuse them when going to markets or fruit stands. my friends say i am the thriftiest in the group and they are proud of me. i make use of everything around me. i try not to put lots into my waste basket.

I don't think being cheap is bad. My thing is why buy ziplocs at all. Just use tupperware or something that's intended to be washed instead. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

I see nothing cheap in a person washing out Ziploc bags and using them over again. I've done it and my Mother does it. I don't consider either of us cheap, just having good sense. The only time I would not wash out a bag is when it has been used for meat. That could cause a contamination problem. There might come a time when others might have to become this type of 'cheapskate'.

LOL! I have done that. But it's more because I don't want to throw plastic into the environment until I have to. I try to reuse and recycle. The cheapest person I know is one of my aunts. She's very selfish with her money -- never gives to charity, never invites others over for dinner because she doesn't want to feed them!

My mom does that sometimes too, I've seen her do it. I don't ever say anything, as long as it didn't have any kind of meat in it, I guess its alright to wash out. My mother-in-law does it too, but she has a good reason, she lives in Africa, and she said they don't have anything like that there, and if you do get something like that, then you do what you can to save them. She came to visit last summer and I seen her doing that here, I just wondered why is she keeping those bags, then she told me that. So when she went back she packed a few boxes of them to take with her. I don't do it tho myself...lol.
