English dictionary

There's an author named Simon Winchester who's written a couple of books about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary. "The Professor and The Madman" and "The Meaning of Everything." I don't know if the OED was the first dictionary, but it's certainly the most extensive and famous. The Professor and the Madman is engrossing, but I haven't read "The Meaning of Everything" yet.
