I am tending to lean towards the natural flooring materials such as cork or bamboo when the time comes to redo our floor, but I have never used these materials before. What is your favorite type of flooring and why?

bamboo flooring samples - bamboo flooring is becoming more common, is so renewable and price is worth looking at, comes in different finishes and is durable
Bamboo is my vote since it grows quickly and can be farmed and is very renewable. It can be used for scaffolding and building so flooring is a very nice way to use it. I believer you would be please with bamboo flooring and am not sure however it would seem to be an easy thing to care for.

actually this type is very resiliant and is finished to be strong. Remember scaffolding is made of it in Oriental lands. They also specialize in strand bamboo flooring, which is one of the hardest and most like I said resilient wood flooring products available. Strand woven bamboo flooring happens to be twice as hard as red oak! The bamboo strand flooring has a distinct grain that looks like traditional hardwoods for example: oak. It has, as a hybrid, the look that combines the uniqueness of bamboo with a classic hardwood floor appearance in your home. Hope this helps!!

The only thing that would concern me about a bamboo floor is that I've heard they are soft. This may or may not be true but if they are soft then I'll have to find a way to coat them or something because I have dogs and I can just see the floors getting all scratched up from them walking on it. Thanks for responding.

I like wooden floors but am going to investigate bamboo and cork instead of tiles for my front bathroom, it depends on the water resistance as my boys tend to wet the floor in there a lot.

That's a great idea. I'm not sure which of the two is better for water resistance. I think cork can be sealed to keep the water out. Thanks for your response.

Like Rainbow I too prefer wooden flooring overall. Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you. Cheers!

We were always carpet but this spring we decided to do the living room floor, we picked laminate flooring, It went down super easy and looks great, I was worried about how durable it would be but 9 months later it seems to have no wear on it at all.

Thanks for the tip, I'll certainly consider it. The good thing is that it can always be taken up and replaced if we end up not liking it.

My husband would like to use cork for our floor coverings. It is durable and long lasting. This type of flooring is very popular in Europe.

I've heard cork is a good sound insulator as well, so you won't have so much echo effect in your room. I like the fact that it's available in so many different pattern and color variations, too. I first thought it would be like taking a bulletin board and attaching it to the floor. Thanks for responding.
