How do you cope when you lose a Job? |
|
I just lost one of my two jobs. I know at least I got one. But this one is part time and deoen't pay much. I have emergency savings that will last for 4 months. But still the shock of losing a job is horrible how do you deal with it? My contract was terminated.

1. SK401001 (822) | 3 years ago | I know how you feel, I went through the same thing back in august, I lost my job of 13 years and only had a part time job that i just started. What I did, I went straight to my part time job and asked if I could get more hours, which thank fully they were able to. The next thing I would file for Un-employment, then straight from their I cracked down on myself and got my resume together, I posted it on all the website like careerbuilder.com and monster.com, and searched for jobs in the paper (sundays is the best), and online the two websites as well indeed.com is a good one, also if their are big companies in your area that you may be interested in, go to their website and look under their career link to see if something is available that may not be in the paper. and then I would just mail, fax or e-mail my resume, I was pretty lucky I got a new job within 1 month. but what helped me through the ruff time was my best friend and my determination to not let this drag me into a state were I felt sorry for myself.

2. edern1 (642) | 3 years ago | This happened to us last year. My husband's employer just decided one day to close the business...no warning..no notice...just went into work in the morning to find out it was their last day. (hubby was there 9 years) I'm thankful he was able to collect unemplyment but to get re-established in another job is very difficult. He is now working his way back up to the income he was at doing the other job. It's frustrating but you'll find something. Stay positive....everything will work out. :-)

3. garfield8 (1659) | 3 years ago | I lost my job too since Aug. 18 of this year. How I dealt with it was that I realized the dept. I was working at was closing SOON in the end of next year or the beginning of 2008. Either way, I would be out of a job. I lost my job because my former supervisor didn't want to lose once the check processing dept. closes completely. So, I was shocked at first, then I started talking to people. People told me that another dooor would open. So, I waited and waited. I am now register for numerous temp agencies for work. Who knows what will happen in the future. Also, you can go seek other work. good luck my friend.

4. oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | I lost the last job I had back in 1972 and it was the best thing that happened to me. I started my own business and never looked back. Finally I sold it in Sept, 2000 and have a very nice retirement because I got off that dead-end job. The company I did work for went broke.

5. KrauseHome (13157) | 3 years ago | Been there, done that... and if I can help it, I never want to be there again. I was let go from one job due to being Robbed, and they said I had too much $$ in my til, and then to another job that lasted only a very short time due to medical issues that interfered with my job, and then was unemployed for about 5 months. I ended up having to draw unemployment until I got the job I am at now. It was not a Fun time, but I have been where I am at now for just over 6 months, and really like working there, so maybe I will get lucky enough to be here for a while this time.

6. Willowlady (8984) | 3 years ago | Temporary work can be a good way to find a job. I even bought a house as a temporary worker. I had been hired as a temp at a place and ended up working there 3 years. I liked it enough to stay and they were good to me. As I have told others it is easier to find work when you already have a job so you seem like you are in a good place and have the funds to do what you need to do find yourself something. Temporary work could fill the funging gap til you find yourself something solid. Good Luck!!

7. thisisrightnow (481) | 3 years ago | It sucks badly. There's no other words to describe. It really worried me when I got fired back in June, cause I had just bought my car a few months prior. I did a few temporary jobs over the summer, but they only lasted for like a week or two for each job, which didn't help much. I finally was able to get a good job last month. My mom had told me it'd take me time to get a good job, and she was right. Putting in all those resumes/applications was almost worth the wait to getting the job I have now.

8. faizaiqtidar007 (135) | 3 years ago | I know how it feels like. i have been through the same thing. at my first job i was realy excited about being able to work and have some extra cash to enjoy spending on things that i want, also partyin with friends. But the first time losing a job is too bad that i felt like i can't go through that again but my friends called me to the company where they were working and i applied for the job, got selected... now it doesnt matter to me if one employer will say bye bye then i will join another company... The worse thing about losing a job is now being able to get cash, which is the basic requirement for everyone. the companies who whent bankrupt didnt pay and thats just sad. We work so hard achieve our targets and at the end what do we get? Nothing!!! That's unethical!

10. jayarajgr (708) | 3 years ago | Its a bad feeling. Especially when the company owe us money but we cant use the legal methods to get it. I lost some money when I lost the job, I must say, when I quit the job coz of disagreements with the employer. Was very sick thinking abou that for a while.
