Did you hear about the avalanche that just occured in Colorado?

There is a report on CNN where a huge avalanche occurred in Colorado that buried people in their cars and also forced cars off the road. They said that the crew had never seen an avalanche that big there before and they are still looking for survivors from this tragedy. I am guessing that all that snow that they have had recently was part of the reason this occurred or are there other reasons? I hope that they find more survivors and that nobody got killed from this. Here is the link for the news. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/06/colorado.avalanche.ap/index.html

This was sad but fortunately they were able to save the people that got caught in it. It looks like there was no deaths and everyone has been rescued. They do not believe there is anyone else under the snow or at least we hope there is nobody else under there.

My partner came home while I still had CNN on about Colorado. We have lived there not far from Colorado so it became a big conversation. But the point is...we sure hop that they are right. Because they say they "believe" there isn't anyone else there. And I hope they are right. Because that would be another horrible thing they would have to report on later.

That is horrible! I love snow but only when people are safe in their homes playing board games and watching movies. It would be really scary to be trapped in your vehicle under a huge amount of snow, especially if you had your children with you.

I can not even imagine what it would be like to be trapped in your car under a lot of snow and other debris that came down with the snow. It has to be dark and cold and very scary for sure and hope they rescue anyone that is trapped under it. My prayers are with them.

Oh god! CNN is now reporting that if anymore people are trapped in their cars still, they may already be running out of air at this point. Please tell me someone that they will find these people! Can they use heat sensors? Is it possible to detect any heat remaining under that much snow?

They found six people from the early reports but not sure if they found anymore. I will be watching this throughout the evening for updates. This is very sad and wonder how many people were driving in that location when this happened.

I had not heard that yet, all those poor people, I hope and pray that no one got hurt seriously. They have been being dumped on with snow lately. So far where I live we have been lucky, a few snow flurries and thats it, I hope it stays that way.

I feel bad for anyone that got caught under that avalanche as it is has to be very cold and dark and scary. Also there could be tree branches and rocks on top of them as well. Let us all pray that they rescue and save everyone that got trapped.

I turned on CNN not long ago to see this as a top story of continuous coverage. It is very sad and I too hope that they find all of the victims before it is too late!!! I can't imagine how cold it must be getting in some of those cars trying to wait for help wondering if help will come...if the windows held out under the weight of the snow. I wonder how busy the road was at the time of the avalanche. Have you heard of any report on the flow of traffic at the time?

They did not mention what the flow of traffic was like at the time so I guess we will have to keep watching the news. They were not certain how many cars were there at the time but they have rescue crews searching. Not is only the snow a problem but the trees and rocks that came down as well.

They said this morning that everyone got out alive. The bad thing is they are suppose to have another snow storm this weekend. I don't think they can handle anymore snow. There are still people stuck. They can't get out and the plows can't get to them. Some are out of power also. I just hope it doesn't get to cold for them and they get up and running again.

I did not hear about them having another snowstorm but that is terrible. I can't imagine what they are going through now or what they could be going through with more snow. Hopefully they will be alright.

Colorado has been getting a lot of snow so far this year and it has to be worrisome for them and anyone that has friends or families there. Hope that they will be safe and that they get a break from the snowstorms.
