I am relatively new here and am having a problem understanding the rules here.I understand how mylot works and the basic rules but it is the unwritten ones that I need help with. Over on digg.com the quality of what you digg does not really matter. If you have a lot of friends you will get a lot of diggs. It is who you know not what you know. Is it the same here?
I am finding that when I post a discussion I get one or two quick responses and then the discussion vanishes off the radar. How can I keep a discussion alive? Do I need to ask a lot of people to be my friend to get noticed. I am hesitant to do this because I feel like I am being intrusive.
Oh Hell! Will you be my friend? There I have said it. Seriously any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I guess it does matter how many friends you have and the responses you would get. Personally I have also gotten one or two responses and if you look there seems to be a pattern here. Some users get most of the responses while others only one or two including myself although I have lots of friends.
The idea perhaps is to post topic that is controversial with chances of a lot of discussion can take place. Check some high response messages and see if you can post something along those lines and see if you get any responses.
I find the easiest way to earn here is to post/reply to other people messages instead of starting your own. That way you have to do less work and yet will earn quicker :). I personally dont care about posting here due to low responses. I simply reply to other's messages.
Also check out this site that is similar to mylot but has many categories to post to and if you get 20 responses you will earn points equivalent to $0.50 instantly.

I find this with some other sites. you tend to lose your motivation because of less responses. I personally dont care any more. I post and see the rewards. So be persistent and keep posting and responding, you will be rewarded. Thats my 2 cents. :)

another thing I have noticed is the way mylot works. Most new messages go under way too quick because of all of the new messages and activity going on. So your message as you post it would be on 3rd or maybe 4th page in a few minutes and most people miss that. Once you see its going under way too quick perhaps add a comment to it or add something to your message so it comes back up. I think mylot has to change/improve its interface so more messages are displayed on one page.
