My favorite Author is Louis L'Amour. He is most famous for his Western Novels but he has written other books that show he was a very knowledgable author. His writtings give you the feeling of being there. I have traveled in the Western United State and have seen some of the formations he has described in his stories. One of his objectives in writting was to describe a place so that if someone went there people would recoginize the location from his writtings. He wrote a series called the Sacketts. This followed a family from England to America and their move west. It is also a a history of the US as it grows up as a Country. You are able to see how the people thought and acted. I feel that he is one of the greatest Authors' of our times and his stories are from the real world from the peoples view. I would be interested in your favorite Author and what you like about him/her.

Voltaire, for his storytelling, wit, and humanity. I'm a writer myself, and Zadig is one of the best traditional storyform books I've ever read, at about Aesop level. The book is an education of itself. A close runner up would be Aldous Huxley.

Thanks for your comments. I have also read a lot of Ludlum's books. He is great at taking some facts and making an excellent novel around them. His book "The Skarletti Inheratance" takes the facts of American Companies that were interested in investing in Germany before WWII. The book floats the idea that the American Companies wanted the US to enter the war on Germanys side. Like all of his boooks there is a "happy" ending. I have tried Stephen King but never got interested in his books.

I love historical fiction and am very familiar with Louis L'Amour. My favorite novel by him was "Comstock Lode", which is about the mining of the Nevada silver mines. It is a great story. My favorite author is Bertrice Small, she writes historical romances, much the same way L'Amour writes about the west. She is very thorough in her research about whichever era she writes about. She is always able to convey a realistic view of the time peroiod and places. I am also never disappointed in her storylines. Happy reading.

Thanks for your comments. I have read the Comstock Load and enjoyed it. My favorite is Jubal, It is the fourth book in the Sackett series. It traces one man from an independent man who depends on only himself to a leader of a small community that is interdependent. I also have several of his stories on tape and CD to listen to when I was communting 55 min. each way to work. It is a great way to enjoy books.

my father is also a big fan of Louis L'Amour and I picked up one of the books during a visit to their home - I did not read much, only a paragraph and it made me blush! it was like a romance novel for men. I was surprised. Maybe it was just the book I picked up, it was hard for me to think Dad would like that sort of thing. heh. I guess with a name like L'Amour it is bound to have romance, eh? I really like the style and topics of Frances De Sales works. Kate Seredy and Francis Finn.
