My electric company really cares!

Wow, that is wonderful Patootie! There have been some pretty bad ice storms in the USA and people from the national guard and local services have been going door to door to check on people. Thankfully we have not suffered from the effect of severe weather conditions in our area this year.

That wouldn't happen with our power company here in California, it's just too big. What we do have in the little town where I live is a great emergency response network. There have been fires in the past in the canyon nearby where my folks (and now me) live, and there are police and fire people almost immediately on the phone and personally at our doors to tell us what's going on and evacuation instructions if needed.I used to work at a huge insurance company and there wasn't much I liked about them lol, except they did have a great care coordination team and a nurse that called and checked in with you after surgery. At least it worked with my own insurance. That was one thing we got positive feedback about.

I think that is great that you electric comany cares so much!
Currently, there are still over 90,000 people in the state of Oklahoma still out of power from the ice storm that we have had. And even though I know they are working very hard to get the power back on, I doubt they are calling anyone.
Instead, there are shelters being opened and there are specific shelters for those that are disabled. And with another system about to hit us tomorrow night, those without power are going to really need to utliize those shelters.
I was able to convince my partner that he needed to pick up more wood just in case we loose power this time.
Neighborhoods all around us lost power. I am grateful that we have not...but I am not going to be completely confident going into this storm because they are still working to get power to others.

The only experience I have had with prolonged power outage is when I was pregnant with my daughter 5 1/2 years ago! We had a terrible storm in which much of the northside, downtown some of westside and some of eastside lost power. Everyone was chipping to help clean up the mess. Smashed cars, many trees down, houses mangled, garages completely flattened. It was the worse I have seen. It was like a storm story on the weather channel or in a movie! There were people from other parts of town with chainsaws, dump trucks, pick-up comeing to help clean thing up so the electricians could fix the fallen power lines. You could not walk or drive anywhere because of these powerlines! There was one elderly gentleman who stopped at the corner and walked half way down the block and said here, let me do that for you. I thanked him as I helped him, because I felt stronger than he looked. We carried branches and cut up larger pieces of trees and carried them to his truck. We were without power for over two days, it was very hot! He came to check on me and my almost 3 year old son the next day! Brought us ice and cold drinks fresh cut fruit and sandwiches! To this day I do not know who he was, where he lives and never seen him again! But people do care, and he made a lot of difference in our life! It is people like that who make the few "not so friendly" people fade out!
When we did have power back, the electric company did call and check on us as I was pregnant and my son is concidered disabled because of Autism. But that did not stand out as much as this man, this mysterious man, that I have no way of paying back even by another thank you!

It is good that your electric or power company do care for its clients especially during times of calamities, such as bad weather and all that. It is unusual and rare that services such as power companies will go out of their way just to know how their clients are coping with the interruption of the service. Sadly, this is the the case in the Philippines, where services can sometimes be inefficient.

In good ol' USA you will never find that happening here. I can barely get the meter guy to smile and say hi. You are on your own where I live!

Fortunatly none of the Power here got affected as such and I hope tat the weather will stay calmer now as that was scary yesterday
