My Ebay Experiment.... |
|
I have decided to use my free time and a little money on testing out Ebay. I purchased 15 items ranging in price from $6.00 to $40.00. I paid for them all quickly, so there should be no delay. These were all random sellers. I will share with you as my packages arrive. I have already had one problem, I ordered an e-book, but they sent the wrong one, I emailed and have still yet to get the right one. Who knows what will happen with the packages as they travel across the Usa. I am alosi looking for a better auction site. I just dont think it is fair for them to try to keep raising fees for sellers.( I am only a buyer) But, they own Paypal too, so they are constantly making money off of somebody. Do you know of a better auction site. Tell me what you think of my experiment.

1. kittensmommy (356) | 3 years ago | From experience, ebay is the safest site, there fees are not that bad compared to amazon, and the paypal yes it's another fee but you get your money right away .I sold on amazon a camera around the holidays,my money was stuck with amazon for 55 days till I had to threaten to call the BBB and file a lawsuit.I've been selling on and off on ebay for 4 years now, it's good, but you have to look at it that way, it's a big big mall with a lot of stores and sellers, buuyers will take time to see you and sometimes they can't,but don't take it personnally, it' commerce that is how it goes. I have to say though that my income was very predictable with avon, I am an avon rep from home also, but with ebay, you'll just never know Good luck....

rameshgopal365 (801) | 3 years ago | As per my knowledge ebay is best to buy/sell; One more safety to your money is that you can get back the money paid for the unarrived goods by the reverse pay option in paypal. Have a nice earnings day!

| alternatives (15) | 2 years ago | Ebay has now become far too big for its boots!
Every so often ebay will change its system, of ten to the detriment of sellers. this is usually in the form of a price rise for fees associated with selling.
Each time this happens ebay loses a few more sellers to ebid.net. Thoses sellers also take their established customer base over to ebid.net.
Ebay is now on the road to burying itself and ebid.net, a small and friendly auction site, might just come out on top.
Ebid.net is FREE to list. The knock on effect of this is that ebid.net sellers don't have to start their listings at silly prices, nor do they have state over the top postage and packing fees, in order to cover their costs.
So, ebid.net is also cheaper for the buyer.
Oh and another thing -you are not 'forced' into using paypal with ebid.net

2. oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | You can do all the experimenting you want, but you won't get me to stray from Ebay. I have been there over six years and have a store now. The fees are very reasonable if you have a store because you become a committed partner with them. In fact right now anyone can list anything for 20 cents, how can you consider that high? Remember getting 100,000 people a day to your ad is worth something.

Is your Ebay store getting a lot of traffic? From what you wrote, I got an impression that your store is promising. What are you selling? How do we become a committed partner with Ebay?

3. ScrappinHappyMom (758) | 3 years ago | I personally haven't bought from any other auction site, but my sister did. Not only did she not receive her product, but there was really no course of action to take. At least at Ebay you get the satisfaction of being able to comment on the seller either good or bad. And you have the ability to check up on the seller's reputation on the site my sister went through she just lost her money.

4. shomomo (708) | 3 years ago | You gave me an idea: how about just purchasing loads of stuff that are dirt cheap and so you get loads of positive rating. Come to think about it, what do you get out of positive rating on eBay?

oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | It simply gives those who are considering doing business with you some confidence that you are a good risk.

akuseru (1784) | 3 years ago | That's why it's very important to know who you are dealing with. If you check a seller's feedback rating and all of the received feedback is for items that person has bought, with no feedback for sold items, you know that you're most likely dealing with an inexperienced seller. You may want to avoid that person, even if they have a high positive rating, simply because they are new to selling on eBay. If you can see all of the items that person has purchased recently, and they are all very cheap items, that should be an automatic red flag--doubly so if they are selling lots of items. Chances are good that they will take your money and run.

moonmagick (654) | 3 years ago | I am pretty new to selling on ebay. I have to admit I was a bit disturbed by getting dinged twice with fees once from paypal and once from ebay, but I suppose thats just all part of it. I did want to add though, that just because someone has a very few selling feedbacks doesnt mean you should necessarily avoid them. We all have to start somewhere. For instance when I found out I was pregnant, I bought a lot of new and gently used baby clothes through various sellers. Now that my baby is getting bigger, instead of dropping off all of the stuff he never even got a chance to wear at goodwill, I thought I would post them on ebay. So right now most of my feedback is from buying, but by the time I get done going through the baby's closet, it will be about 50/50. I dont think that makes me a bad seller, it just means I am just getting started.

5. Alexc123 (124) | 3 years ago | the problem with trying different sites is that they could be a scam and could be unsafe. there is always a risk when you give your card details away, but the mroe well known the site is, the less chance of you being scammed. the experiment does sound good, its quite likely you will get a lot of wrong items or delays though lol.

| 6. b00chay (25) | 3 years ago | I don't like the idea of auction sites, I prefer to use Amazon or other dedicated retail channels with their own dedicated stock/suppliers, probably because of all the fraud and stuff you hear of round the net.

7. carlaabt (3164) | 3 years ago | I don't know of any auction sites that are better than ebay. I buy A LOT of stuff on Ebay. I've bought over 200 items easily just in the year and a half that I have lived in ND and out of all of my transactions, only one of them was even remotely bad. I had a problem with a seller not shipping the item in a very timely fashion. Every time I emailed her she responded quickly saying it would be in the mail soon. I got it almost a month after I paid for it. But I did recieve the item eventually. And as I stated before, that was the only problem I have ever had with them.

8. patootie (3081) | 3 years ago | I have done quite a lot of purchasing through Ebay and also sold off quite a few unwanted prize wins ..
To date I have never had a problem .. all the people I have sent items to have been happy .. and all the items I have bought have been just as described ..
I've only had one problem and that was an item that was sent from Australia which unfortunately got broken in the post .. it was replaced immediately by the seller ..
I am very happy with the way Ebay works .. although I am not happy about the hand over fist charges you have to pay ..

10. missybal (3713) | 3 years ago | I don't know of any one that works out better for sellers due to the wide popularity of ebay and how it is better known. I buy and sell on ebay and the fees to get quite high and I tried to do without excepting paypal but so many people wish to pay that way and it is terrible that it costs me for them to use it. I feel it should be the other way around. I ask as much as possible for money orders instead but no one wants to do it. When i started with ebay the fee to list an item was a lot lower. Now I watch very closely for when they have a deal on listing or gallery photo. It's so sad that I have to pay 35 cents just in order to put a little photo up and that is for any starting price. I can't see too many little things due to this and a lot of people make up for the fees by charging more shipping.
