Name That Fear email this discussion to a friend?

Almost all of us (if not all of us) are afraid of something. Weither it is snakes, or curtains. Who knows?! Anything is possible.

I am scared of mice, snakes, spiders, and somewhat scared of heights. I also have a couple stories to go with that.

I told one of my mice stories in a comment, so I'm going to tell a different one here. It wasn't that long ago, and for some reason we had a mouse that wouldn't leave. No matter what we put out to get rid of it, the darn thing survived. I was getting ready to throw something in the trash when the darn mouse ran by me. In a flash I managed to jump and stand on my chair freaking out until it was gone. I even left my daughter in the middle of the living room not knowing what the heck was wrong with mommy. I think I stayed in the chair, feet up, for atleast a half hour.

This one is about a snake. It was a long time ago. Knowing my extreme fear of snakes, you wouldn't imagine my surprise when (after I'd just got mowing the lawn) I found the headless body of a grass snake in the front yard. It was kind of creepy, but it was creepier to think about the fact that I might have stepped on it. That was the worst feeling I'd ever felt.

Luckily I don't have any real spider or heights stories. I hope I won't have any at any time either.

Now it's your turn. Do you have a fear? Does it have a story behind it/to go with it? I want to hear it!

As funny as it sounds, I'm actually afraid of Frogs, LOL!! I think it's because when I was younger I was walking down the road with a friend and went to stand on what I thought was a leaf when it jumped up in my face and it turned out it was a frog. It was horrible and I just can't bear them.

myLot reputation of 93/100. angelashupe (295)  3 years ago

The fear of frogs isn't all that crazy. I can see why you would be. I, personally, think they're cute looking - but I wouldn't want to touch one. I can look at them all I want, even up close. When it comes to touching one, it creeps me out a little.

Hi, i am Catherine. I am petrified of the dark. It doesnt even have to be totally dark for me to panick. It is the same thing with thunder and/or lightning.

myLot reputation of 93/100. angelashupe (295)  3 years ago

You know what, that is the one fear of mine I forgot to put down when I started this post! I don't know how I managed to forget it. I've been scared of the dark since I was little. It's gotten better (I'm not as scared as you are), but the fear is still there.

Thanks for your comment!

I definitely don't like spiders. I am not afraid of them to the point of running out of the room, but they freak me out and I don't like to have them running around near me. I especially can't deal with the ones that scuttle around almost faster than the eye can see, and the jumping ones. I have had both around my computer in past summers/springtimes. One jumped off the edge of this Computer Desk once and scared me half to death, lol! I also had one come down from the ceiling in my room or fall from the ceiling somehow, but it was already dead I guess.. I felt something in my hair and brushed it off and it was dead, and I know that i didn't crush it. Still, it was creepy to have that happen.

Those infamous spiders. Ick. Now that I think about it, I once encountered one in the shower and made my exboyfriend (we are still friends) come in and kill it for me. I'm sure their have been more encounters in the shower with them than that, but since I take off my glasses to shower (obviously, lol) I can't see them. I have the "if I can't see you, then it's all good" rule when it comes to creatures that scare me.

I have a good spider story for you. If I had remembered it, I would have included it when I started the discussion. Their was once this giant spider... bigger than a 1/2 dollar... that had a huge web on the outside of the house. I swear he was a guard spider or something. He just sat there watching us come and go. I was so afraid to go near that side of the house that I did end up using a can of spider killer on him. The whole can. He ran up into the gutters and I never saw him again. Thank goodness!

myLot reputation of 85/100. shywolf (3832)  3 years ago

LOL! That is a great spider story. A watch-spider, indeed! He sounds pretty intelligent.. once you got out that can of spray, he took off and never came back!*laugh*

Thank you for marking me the best response!! It's an honor!^_^

I actually had a spider come down from the ceiling today when I was eating lunch. It landed in my tray. Oh boy*laugh* I say that it came from the ceiling - I actually didn't see. It startled me a lot, since in winter (even in the house) I don't usually see that many spiders. But for some reason, we always get them in here by the computers! (Yes, I eat by the computer, too. I watch videos on the computer and keep up with an online game that I play.*laugh*)

I think spiders like the warmth of the house because I get more during the winter. Granted we get our fair share in here during the summer too.

I find the most spiders by my bed. I think it's their hang out spot.

Oh, and you're welcome=) I liked your answer the most.

I have a fear of mice. Doesn't matter how big or small, they creep me out. When my kids were little one of the boys were in the kitchen with me when he jumped on a chair and started screaming that a cat just ran under the refrigerator. Now we didn't have a cat. Could that cat have been a mouse and was that mouse that large? I joined him in the chair for at least 20 minutes.

myLot reputation of 93/100. angelashupe (295)  3 years ago

LOL, I would do the same thing!

I think my daughter is too young for any real fears... but she does have one. She's afraid of fuzz. If she gets a bit of fuzz between her toes, or on her foot, she'll hold that foot in the air, crying, until I get it off. If she finds any fuzz on a toy or something [like if she stuffed a toy under her bed for a month, then found it, and it grew dust], she'll hold it as far away from herself as possible and tell me it's "yucky". She's okay again once it's washed/wiped off.
