Has anyone tried to set a World Record in something?

I was wondering if any members here had ever tried or thought about trying to set a World Record in any area. It can be sports related, food related, or anything else that a record could be set in. If you did try, were you successful? What record did you try and break?

That is a good record to try and set and hope you have or will accomplish that. I am not really interested in trying to break any world records as there are too many records out there.

I participated in a World Record Event. It was the worlds largest ground breaking ceremony in Toledo, Ohio. It took place in June 1979. It was listed in the Guiness World Record book for a few years, they don't list it any more. I even have a certificate for it. Ground was being broken for the Headquarters for The Owens Illinois corp. They had a free picnic lunch for everybody, it was a big news thing.

That is so awesome. That is ashame though they do not list it anymore in the books. I was ony 9 years old then so I probably did not hear about it or did not pay attention to the news.

I guess I have not thought of it that much before. I do not know. I hate to compete and stuff. So, I do not know if I would be interesting in something like that. I think the World Record is too hard for me to compete with.

I just read in the paper yesterday that a group of guys set a new Guinness record for riding to all 400+stations in the New York subway system. It took them something like 25 hours. I've never tried a record, but that's one I could almost see myself trying, as opposed to sitting on a pole for 3 days or something like that.

I did not hear about this record breaking event as that did have to take a long time. That is a lot of stations to go to and wonder how they knew about all of them. It is interesting to hear about all these different ideas that people come up with for records.

I am sure there are people coming up with all sorts of new ideas to break records in. I am sure you will think of something that you might be interested in setting a record in.
