Sticky Paws -Keep your cat from shredding your furniture. |
|
Sticky Paws is a double-sided tape that adheres to your furniture on one side and is sticky on the other. Cats do not like the stickiness on their paws and as a result do not scratch on the surface. Here is a link to purchase this:http://www.stickypaws.com/stickypawscom/productsSPOAR.cfm I have used this product with great success. It does attract hair and other dust particles, so you will need to periodically change the tape.

1. shywolf (3828) | 3 years ago | You know, this sounds like a better remedy than the 'soft paws' that I read about here on Mylot yesterday. People were saying that the soft paws that you put on your pet's paws just fall off. This sounds like a much better deterrent to keep your cats or other clawed pets from tearing up your furniture! I'll definitely keep it in mind for when I have pets around the house again. What a great tip, thank you!^_^

2. ineedaname (795) | 3 years ago | You could use carpet tape too. I might try this out. But my cats don't really claw to many things. They have their own scratching post and do a pretty good job at using it. I will keep this in mind and pass it on to friends. Thank you!

3. mari61960 (3164) | 3 years ago | My sister bought soome of this because she had a rescue kitten that kept trying to use her new couch as a scratching spot. She put it on a couple of times and thought her daughter was taking it off. When my niece came home my sister was waiting to let her have it. Well my niece denied removing it. Then just a few minutes after that she saw the dog run behind the chair on the other side of the room. She went and looked, there was 5 strips of the darn tape all balled up. She put more on and watched from the kitchen. He went over and kept licking it till he got a corner up and pulled it off. Then he ran and put it behind the chair. She said she never laughed so hard. God only knows what the dog was thinking, maybe he was helping the cat?? She said she has gotten the dog to stop and it does work to stop the kitten from scratching, especially since the dog is leaving it alone.

ElusiveButterfly (9458) | 3 years ago | We had a problem when it was first applied. If it was recently placed on the furniture and we got too close to it with our clothes, it would stick and peel off.

4. razcal2267 (9498) | 3 years ago | There is just one thing that I do not like about Sticky Paws. I watch my cousins one year old at least once a week and they have this stuff on four different parts of their couch. It never fails that the baby is walking around on the couch and ends up getting stuck to it.

ElusiveButterfly (9458) | 3 years ago | Our friend's cat tries to use the couch as a scratching post. We get her over to the Turbo Scratcher as quick as possible. They would let her scratch their furniture all that time. I really fear for my furniture. Hopefully the Sticky Paws will deter her.

| 9. VickiB (36) | 3 years ago | My only concern would be how it appears on the furniture. Is it very visible and ugly? That kind of defeats the purpose of stopping the cats from scratching...to preserve the new look. If it's covered in tape, won't it look bad anyways?

| christagentile (1) | 1 year ago | Yes, you are correct. I bought this tape last year because my cat started scratching are new furniture, which is now almost a year old and on the one side has been literally shredded. The tape, however, is still in the same original spot where he started. It looks horrible. I throw my apghgan over the arm of the area and let it lay and hide the taped area. You cannot completely cover with apghgans though, right? I bought the herbal spray which my cat dislikes and spray all of the furniture and my now new curtains. It has to be done for a couple of days in a row and then repeated as needed. They still scratch and damage has already been done. Ya know I waited 3 years to get that furniture!! I have filled a can with pennies and when he scratches, I throw the can near. Just scares her away but works when I am there. I have just ordered slipcovers for my furniture. They will be ugly but I am covering the shredded furniture. Good luck. Soft paws do not stay on. I guess you can throw covers over it and then when people come over, remove them. Lots of luck Christa
