|  My cat is about 16 yrs old. I have to lock him in the bathroom at night because he will pee or crap in the house. Even in the bathroom he will mess up right outside his cat box. Why would he do that and how can I stop it. He's so old now but he never used to be that way 4 yrs ago.

| | I might not be the cats fault, because 16 is very old for a cat, and he might have something wrong with him where he might not be able to control going to the bathroom and things like that. You might want to get him checked out with your local vet. | | | | | | |

| | he just might be getting old and cannot help it. 16 is a ripe old age for a cat. he might have a bladder problem. I would call your vet and see if they can take a look at him. Make sure that he does not have any failing organs or infections that are atributing to him going potty all around the house. | | | | | | |

| |  Besides taking him to the vet, you should check out his litter box. He may be bigger not and the box may not be big enough. Often this is the problem. Make sure that the box is large enough, deep enough and wide enough so that he is comfortable. If it has a lid, you should try it without. also, since he has been having "accidents" for so long, you may need to re-train him on the litter box.

| |  aww sweet heart;;I hate to tell you this..but its the age..my cat is 17 yrs old and he is starting to do the same..i also need to make an appt..they said it very well can just be the age and he has nooo control over his bladder anymore..orr..he maybe getting picky about the litter..that its noit clean enough for him ..or he feels ill..theer are a number if thingfs they told me..but first clean out the boc totally..soap and water..get frish new litter..try BAKING SODA WITH ODOR RELIEF..again what i was told..clean everytiome he goes..but make an appt with his vet..it maybe something serious..take care of that cutie.,.good luck!
