Wow! How sad! LOL!! |
| |
| ever since my son was able to watch the TV he would. i tried not to let him cause they say babies under 2 shouldnt really watch tv, but when you have a small house and a tv in the living room, bedrooms, i cant really help it. it would catch his attention and i would move him but he would turn his head to watch it again. you can deft. tell he has his fathers geans lol! well i figured that if he was to watch tv, i would at least let him watch something other than violence, and that other stuff. so i put on Nick Jr. and now its so sad, cause i know all the songs to Dora the Exploer, Backyardigans, Go Diego Go, Blues Clues, and The Wonder Pets. Who else knows the songs to your kids tv shows? I sing them to my son and he loves it! He smiles and laughs! | | | | | |

| | I think all kids must be this way. My grandchildren used to sit on the floor about a foot from the television set, transfixed. I don't think there's too much harm in them watching tv, as I think it's a learning process for them. They watch how other people behave, and relate to it. It gives them character, but do limit the watching to the children's programmes, then give him a break, by taking him out in the garden for a run-around, or for a short walk. They love to get outside as well... another learning curve. They love to watch birds, butterflies and are always most excited by squirrels... I wonder why??? lol. They also like to watch aeroplanes and buses, stuff like that... and the glory is, the fresh air and all the watching tires them and often they fall asleep for a couple of hours. You say it's sad that you have to watch all those kids' tv shows but when I minded a little girl in the village, from the age of seven months, as she grew, and learned to walk, we had to watch Teletubbies in the mornings. Not satisfied with watching, she used to have me doing all the dancing about and laying on the floor kicking my legs. Goodness knows what the guy though who was doing the garden! I can't look him in the eye any more. I bribed him with cups of coffee. ha ha ha ha ha. Thank you for this discussion. It brought back some wonderful and humorous moments! Brightest Blessings! | | | | | | |

| | Aww, that sounds like what happened to me when my little one was 2. She is 5 now, but I had the Wiggles theme song, Bear in the Big Blue House, Cailou, and Dora known by heart :-). | | | | | | |

| | I dont think there is any harm in children watching TV and most mums will admit to using the telly as a great babysitter!! As long as they arent sat in front of it all day and you monitor what they watch then there is no great harm. | | | | | | |

| | They are advantages and disadvanategs of being glued to the TV. From your story, the shows that you're letting your son watch are educational. I for one, I love Barney, I sing the finale song (I love you, you love me...) with my children when I'm tucking them in bed. I usually interact with them whenever they are watching these educational shows because it is a way of developing their vocabularies and using instances in the show to cite good values. Enjoy watching with your son, it will not be like that forever, by the time that he grows up, you can never know if he will still like to watch TV with you. So, enjoy it will it last. | | | | | | |

| | Oh I totally understand what you mean! When I was pregnant I was like "no tv!" but now he has a few shows he watches everyday especially like you said on Nick Jr and PBS. He's 2 now so he's really starting to pick up on what he watches and most of the shows on those channels are good. And yeah, "wonder pets wonder pets we're on our way..." LOL | | | | | | |
