I have always used briefcase as an easy way to keep a secure backup of my important spreadsheets and documents, and I assumed that this was standard practice.
I was recently talking to a friend and was asked “What is briefcase?” which I found to be a strange question. I then discovered that many of my friends had no idea what briefcase was. Of course briefcase does not appear on the desktop by default in Windows any longer, so I wondered how many people were still using it

You can count me on the list of people who have never really heard of windows briefcase. it sounds like a good tool to use to backup things that I might need in the future, though, so I will have to think about looking into it. Your post has brought it to my attention, so thank you very much! ^_^

As I previously said it was part of the standard desktop in earlier Windows versions, so I assumed that people would be fully aware of it. I realise how naive that sounds since many people started with Windows XP or Windows 2000. I find it essential for financial data that needs not only archiving but also keeping up to date.

Not me either. I really never heard that the computers have them either. So, I will check that out. Thanks for sharing this.

I use my documents. I used briefcase once and didnt like it. I ended up making a folder called my documents instead.
