what style of aikido is the best for you? email this discussion to a friend?

hideyoshi (41)3 years ago

as we know, there are some styles of aikido, such as: aikikai, yoshinkan, tomiki, takeda, yoseikan, and such.

fot you, which one is the best, and what is the reasons?

for my self, i prefer aikikai, because its the easiest to learn as beginner in aikido, and, there only aikikai-aikido dojo in my town:)

For me, it's the Nisho style Aikido since it has a more fluid and graceful form of footwork. It is also more evasive and it's harder to learn. Another good thing about this style is it can, at times be deceptive and can hide your most critical moves during an execution.

im an aikido practitioner myself, but i dont know much about the different types of aikido. but being into martial arts for already a considerable time, i could say is that any type would be best. what matters is that you practice it well and dedicate some time and heart into it. its a proven way one could improve. as long as you could apply what you learn in actual fights or self-defense, its the best

Amen. The best style is the one that motivates you most to practice dillegently.

I consider myself a beginner (5th kyu). I practice under the aikikai curriculum, but we adopt an open mind in such a way that aikido is aikido, no matter what the style. I think it's noteworthy though that practitioners of other aikido styles tend to gravitate towards aikikai, even blackbelts. Maybe because you may want to practice aikido and find the other styles more effective streetwise, but eventually you'd want to go to the source of your art, which is the one founded by O Sensei himself.
