Does your cat shed? |
| |
| It seems my cat 'Buddy' sheds more than what I would consider usual. I have to comb him out everyday (at least once a day) and find hair all over the house. Does anyone else have this problem and if so is there anything I can do about it? | | | | | |

| | I have only had Jasper for a few months and he has not stopped shedding. It is cold now and I thought he would stop, even though he is a house cat. There does not seem to be an end in sight. I brush him everyday and also wipe him down with a wet paper towel a few times a day. I find it cuts down on the amount of hair and on his hairballs. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, my cat is shedding a lot lately as well. I thought it would stop as winter approached but it has seemed to be getting worse! | | | |

| | I DONT think you can do much about it but keep a lot of lint rollers on hand. I see them at Wal*Mart for a $1.00 or pay more for a larger one! Get lots! DONT wear things you think will attrack hair more (like black shirts for example or pants). I have cat hair on ALL things and ALL on me too. And dog but more cat. I dont think they shed as much during winter as they do in spring or summer. I know in spring and summer they are shedding their winter coats so they she'd more. Just some advice. | | | | | | |

| | Hi there...some of the contributing factors which cause cats to shed is lighting, seasons, diet and how often a cat is groomed. Cats are not only seasonal shedders rather it's because of the lighting, called “photoperiod”. Year round indoor cats will shed more because during the winter season household/artificial lighting is on longer during the darker hours. You can read more in greater detail as to why cats shed: http://www.cozycatfurnitu... http://www.fvma.com/displ... What causes an animal to shed? Animals shed in the fall to replace heir thin summer coat with thick winter fur. In the spring, hey will shed to prepare for upcoming warmer days. Loss of hair is determined by your pet's exposure to light. Animals that are kept inside under artificial light shed more than they normally would. Because cats are obligate carnivores cat foods that are rich in high protein and devoid of corn, corn meal (found in nearly all commercial name brand cat foods) will help lower shedding in combination with regular brushing/combing to help lift dead hairs from the cats coat. Cat foods which contain corn fillers are sold to lower the cost of manufacturing for the consumer and are used as binders to keep the dry food together for longer preservation of the product. When feeding premium cat food people notice a tremendous difference in the cats shedding, coat shine and overall health as well. Here's a website that explains the nutritional needs which a cat needs and the truth about cat food cat ingredients: http://www.consumersearch... | | my one cat sheds all the time. he's a long haired cat and it's all over my house. i try and vacuum but then it just gets all over the house after i vacuum. i comb my cat too and that helps a little bit but it doesnt take care of the job completely. i use a pet powder that i put on the carpet it's supposed to get the hair up that's imbedded in the carpet and it makes the house smell nice. | | | | | | |

| | I have five cats and they all constantly shed year round. I have found nothing to eliminate this problem but it helps to brush them every day (if they'll let you). I have one cat who refuses to let me brush him. The cat brush I find the most useful is one that looks like it has bent wires on it. Also, you might try using a flea comb and combing the hair against the way it grows. This way you remove the dead hair in the undercoat also. | | | | | | |
