I was 7 yrs. old when I went up the diving board and pretended I was going to dive to impress my uncles and aunties. I didn't know how to swim then. As I was on my act of diving, my uncle stood behind me and pushed me down. I shouted on my way down to the pool. I thought I was going to drown but as I moved my body I discovered I can float so I went up the diving board again and repeated the action. That was a funny thing to learn swimming.

Ok that may be a pretty dangerous way how to learn how to swim, but at least you had fun and it turned out ok. To this day, I don't know how to swim. I would love to learn, because I love being in the pool. I hate the beach water, but I love the pool. I am thinking about finding a park or something that teaches swimming and taking classes. Hopefully I will get around to it soon.

I'm from a small town in the country, surrounded by other small towns in the country. It was common practice for every kid to go into swimming lessons. I started when I was probably about 4, however I failed the beginner level twice .. I refused to put my head under the water, lol. Once they actually talked me into doing that though, it was all good. I continued lessons just like everyone else in my town, however most of them stopped at Bronze Medallion level. (the highest class before you take lifeguarding). I continued and got my lifeguarding certificate, and volunteered at the pool for a few summers after that. That certificate made it a bit easier on me now, since I teach my kids to swim instead of having to worry about putting them in classes. In the city we live in now ... it's a port city, right on Lake Superior, so it would be rather silly to now have my kids with proper swimming capabilities when we live on the lake, lol.

You must be a good swimmer to be able to reach that level. I couldn't picture myself being a lifeguard, what a big responsibility that is. There are several cases here that the one trying to save a drowning friend ended up drowning himself. I know one shouldn't even try diving into the water to save someone without proper training, that's a very risky thing to do. Cheers!
