Do you live in an area, or a country that has a huge problem with Bushfires? I do.
Australia is one of the most bushfire prone areas in the world. In fact, certain areas in my state (south Australia) and Victoria, are the World's worse bushfire areas.
We have massive bushfires every summer, and on some occasions these turn into wildfires.
Bushfires are bad enough, causing loss of life and property, but wildfires are a catastrophe, causing a much greater loss of life and out of control fires.
The worse wild fire I remember was in February 1983. It is over 40 degrees C that day, with a hot northerly wind. Fires started in south Australia and Victoria due to a variety of causes.
These causes are usually fires being deliberately lit, council rubbish dumps getting out of control, and more rarely, spontaneous ignition, principally of gum trees.
What makes these bushfires turn into wild fires are the strong north winds. This is what occured on Ash Wednesday, when hundreds of fires across our two states went out of control and turned into wildfires. Over 70 people lost their lives, and millions of acres of property, farm land and farm animals were lost.
We have tried every year since to prevent bushfires, and our firefighters do an amazing job putting them out. Sometimes firefighters go interstate, to help fight bushfires that are out of control. Firefighters loose their lives fighting fires every year.
This year my state has had a few bushfires, including two in the hills near where I live. We watched the huge water bomber helicopter fly over my house picking up water from the nearby reservoir to dump on the fires. All were put out eventually, and none turned to tragedy.
Currently, Victoria and Western Australia are experiencing major bushfires, many of which are still out of control.

I move three years ago,and here we don't have the threat of forest fires here as much ..they do alot of controled burning so that helps
Where I lived before down in south Florida we were always having forest fires,my sisters home almost was consumed, the fire came with in twenty feet of her house, the firemen worked so hard to save her home ..they were exhusted once they got the fire undre control. They can be an awesome force to deal with ...
Now I have hurricanes to deal with ... I am not to sure I want too stay here ...lol

I come from Melbourne and it breaks my heart when I think of the bushfires and all those animals and not just the worldlife but the animals that are fenced in and can't run, when there are bushfires coming then the gates shoul be opened to at least give them a chance, a long time before the the fires come close, I believe a lot of animals have a special sense about these things...

Living in the States where we are, we do not experience those fast moving consuming fires. Out west of here in California they get those problems. The winds egg theirs on. Do you adjust your plants around your house to create a fire free zone and put tiles on the house that do not burn? Hope as many as possible stay alive and that loss of critters and property is kept to a minimum.

I'm from Melbourne Victoria about 1.5 -2hrs away from the fires that were in the high country we had been blanketed in smoke from them a few times over the past month... I would see about 4 helicopters fly past in the late afternoon after fighting the fires I only realised that was what they must of been doing when I noticed one was a water bomber... I have some pics of the Dargo fire.

I was born and raised in California, and there we have tons of wild/forest fires yearly...so it gets pretty crazy there. And the thing is, it is natural for there to be grass fires in certain regions, however, what has happened is that many people have settled in those areas, and so they literally placed themselves in the danger areas, and need rescuing. Other times, there have been fires that have started from people that have been smoking or lit a camp fire and weren't supposed to etc. The land in that area is amazing, people do not understand the area that they are in, and so all sorts of things can go wrong. I remember we had finals week and a lot of students went south for the weekend, and they were trapped from coming to college (my univ is in northern cali.), and they had to take their exams at a later date...because there was no way to get back to the campus with all the wildfires.

yikes!
my area is wooded, but it's kind of damp year 'round.
usually if an area does catch fire,it's arson.
although once in a while lightning does it too.

although bush fires are not common in India but definitely forest fires do have occurred in past few years, i dont exactly remember the year during which the catastrophe occurred, but it happened in the forest cover of Kumaon hills, where large area of forest was burnt, and indeed these fires result in the loss of wild life.
