If you love to listen to tunes on your iPod and and you live in or visit New York, you may soon be in trouble. They have a law in motion that will make it illegal to listen to your iPod, Blackberry, cell phone, video game, or other electronic device while crossing street.
If you are walking, jogging, or riding a bicycle and cross a New York street you will be facing a fine of $100 if you do not pull the earphones before crossing.
I know New York needs money; but, really is this the way to get it. Of course, they claim it is for our own protection; because, a couple of people listening to tunes stepped off the pavement, without looking, and were killed.

I had heard about this on the news earlier today. I think it is going alittle far. I know it is supposed to be for your safety but why just now? People have been walking around with headphones on for as long as I can remember; they have been using cd/cassette players.

They "say" the reason they are doing it now is because a guy stepped in front of a bus lst Sept and another one infront of a car last month. I guess they never heard of the Darwin Awards.

As speakeasy mentioned, it may just be another excuse to get more money. As I've said before, a bit ridiculous to hear. Most people should have enough common sense to look both ways before crossing the streets. Even if they're listening to music. A fine of $100 seems outrageous, even if they want to ensure no one breaks this law.

that really sucked if those rumors are true, for those people living in new york. they cant listen to ipods there, only at home? then whats the point of having one and being portable (other words: small to take anywhere) if they wont be able to listen to it. that really would suck.

They can listen to them without interruption as long as they don't cross any streets; but, whenever they get ready to cross the earphones have to come out. Yeah, that will suck; especially if they are in the middle of a great song but getting hit by a bus (that happened last Sept) would suck more.

Well, if it's only while crossing the street I don't really see a problem with it. Although it is a bit ridiculous just taking out earphones before crossing the street isn't really that hard. A fine that is easy to avoid, unless you don't know about it.

It might be easy but not if you are riding a bike. Can't you just see someone trying to remove the earphones EVERY time they need to cross the street on thier bike!
