What is poetry?

What is poetry?Ebenezer Elliott said that,"Peotry is impassioned truth." Or another said that,"man's thoughts tinged by his/her feelings" Do you think they are all right? What are they that your favorite poems and poets?

I agree with "man's thought tinged by his/her feelings",the poems I like most of the poets of ancient China, such as Su Shi's Prelude, Jiang Cheng Zi and Li Zhi Yi's Song of Divination.

Yes, they are both right! Of course poetry is so much more. I would add, it is "one's perception of life."
