 Yes, Texas was its own country for about 2 years. I think that is an interesting piece of historical trivia. Does anyone know more about this subject? I used to live there and with this knowledge, no wonder the natives seem to have an attitude that is very different than other places in our country. It is such a breath of fresh air.

4.  photobug (129) | 2 months ago |  Texas was a republic from 1836 - 1845. Before that, Texas was ruled by Spain, France and Mexico. During the Civil War, Texas joined the Confederacy, and afterwards became the 28th state. I lived in San Antonio for 20 years and love the city and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. If you ever get to visit San Antonio, make sure you go to the Institute of Texan Cultures. You'll be amazed at the diversity of people who settled inTexas.

I still have a few friends in Texas. I miss Texas and its people sometimes. I miss some of the activities also. I used to go to the rodeo most Saturdays. I went fishing most Sundays. I always had a job or two and sometimes I had three jobs at once. It was fun. | |
