What is the worst place you have ever been in to get a tattoo?

My g/f Steph and I were in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and after our formal dinner decided to go out and get tattoos. We were wandering up Canal Street while she tried to remember where she had gone last year and went one place she thought was the one. A couple of clues that this place wasn't safe: a little girl (5 or 6?) wandering around in and around the area where people were getting tats; a homeless man who came up while I was looking through the book with one of the 'artist'; and the kicker: a drunk sleeping it off in the back of the place. We hightailed it outta there and kept wandering til we found it. Three artists in the place, basically getting ready to close up for the night when we wandered in, not exactly sure of what we wanted. I am still healing (or else I'd take a pic), but we both got ours done. And we talked up our business all night (Slumber Parties), handed out cards (I even gave the guy who did my tat my website) and had fun! So tell me...what's the tattoo place you've been in?

Hmmm ...having just read you are in desperate stakes moneywise why on earth did you spend all the money to go to New Orleans, eat out and think of having a tattoo ?? I know we can't live every second of our day without having some fun .. but you have to 'cut your cloth' according to the money you have .. surely you would have been better off paying a bill .. Sorry scorpiobabes .. but that's the way I was brought up .. bills first .. and then if any money is left it can be assigned to entertainment and fun !

The trip was for work...otherwise I wouldn't have gone (and my daughter threw me into this financial mess--had you looked, I've been through a doozy of financial curveballs in the last six months and this trip was planned well before then!) I ate out ONCE and only got a few trinkets (my daughter, my boyfriend and my father). My bills were all paid prior to leaving...the tats were our way of celebrating the fact that we were still standing a year later (we both have MS). Considering it would have cost me a LOT more to get one here at home (in upwards of $75!) for the same thing, I figure this is one way of sharing a bond with someone who has the same disease and understands why I have good days and bad days.

I have never gottent a tattoo my self, but I have been with others who have. I can tell you the worse place was where the guy was eating while doing the tattoo and dropped some of his food on a client. We hightailed it outa there!

I live in New Orleans and have gotten 2 tats here. I have gone into many tat places here and in other places I have lived. Hands down is a local place called Electric Lady Land. They have the best art work I have seen (besides Kat on Miami Ink).

Are they on Canal Street? One of the artists is named Dom? On the same side of the street as the Marriott? That's the place we went, about 1:30 in the morning. I was talking about them being good; once we crossed Canal we found the bad place.

Back in college I got the idea that I might want to get a Winnie-the-Pooh tattoo on my ankle. I went into this tattoo parlor that was in a nice looking brick building. Well, inside it was a dump. There was a dog on an actual CHAIN in this place that looked like a dirty garage. It was dark and there was a nasty upholstered chair and the guy doing the drawing was just less than clean. Needless to say, I turned around and left. I eventually did get two tattoos, but not a Pooh. And not at that tattoo shop.

What are your two tats? Mine is (alledgedly) the Chinese symbol for strength and the other for my birth sign (Scorpio). And where was this less than ideal place?

I got my two best tattoos from a place that looks kind of shady in my town. The tattoo that got that didn't turn out very well actually came from Ancient Art, one of the "best" tattoo shops in the area.
