what do you think.
I really think my mooncup is fantastic.
obviously in the long run it works out much cheaper than tampons or towels, its healthier, better for the environment.
I find it more practical for day to day life, and the blood is cleaner and doesn't smell bad. everything feels healthier than with tampons while I'm using it too.
so what does everyone else think?
why aren't people taught about these alongside being taught about tampons and towels in school. they're so much healthier, cheaper and more environmentally friendly. more people should know about them.

I have been interested in using one for many years, now, actually, but haven't purchased one yet. I'm torn between the Keeper and the Moon cup, but I'm leaning towards the Moon Cup because while I don't have latex sensitivities, allergies can develop at any time and the Moon Cup has the advantage of being medical grade silicone.
The last several years, though, what I have been using are sea sponges. I've loved them, but in the long run, I believe a menstrual cup will still be more cost effective. Sponges are a better choice than disposable pads and tampons, but eventually, they do need to be disposed of. (Fortunately, they're biodegradable and a naturally renewable resource, so it's not such a drain on the earth when they are disposed!)
Most recently, to be sure I'd like to use a cup, I've tried using Insteads, which aren't technically reusable, but so far I've had good luck just rinsing or wiping it out and reinserting it. Because they are meant to be disposable, however, at the end of my cycle, I go ahead and dispose of the one I've been using, rather than keeping it until the next month.
My experience so far has only reaffirmed the belief that as soon as these are gone, I'd like to order a cup of some variety.

well worth going for it.
from the different varieties I've seen I do think the mooncup is probably the cleanest and comfiest. something about the texture of latex makes me think it might get a bit smelly.
I definitely recommend them to anyone though. I think they are quite life changeing

I know what you mean by life changing. Even just switching from commercial, disposable tampons to the sea sponges was a life changing process.
It's like there's some huge, indescribable shift that happens when you realize you're not feeding into a patriarchy's world view of how I should care for and feel about my body, and that you're making a fairly significant impact on the environment as well.
It's such a simple change to make, too, that it makes so many other positive changes seem infinitely and effortlessly possible.

Ok I'll be perfectly honest and say that I'm not even really sure I know anything about them LOL Are they hard to use? Is it something you reuse or do you get a box of them? LOL I feel so silly even asking at my age and I cant even use the excuse "well I was a sheltered child" cause there was nothing sheltered abotu my life at all....Can you just buy them at like WalMart etc? ARe they expensive? see here I go with my damn questions again...but I'd be seriously into going more healthy provided its not confining or it doesnt restrict my daily activities etc...

Well I had a hystorectome about 5 years ago due to indomeatreosis. (spelling is alful) and I have nothing but boys in my home. Ok to the point! What in the world are re-useable menstrual cups? Are thay something new? Do they exist in the USA? I am sorry and I am not trying to sound stuped, but I have never heard of such a thing.

they've been around since the 1920s, I think.
basically it's a silicon cup that you wear inside and it catches the flow. then you take it out and tip it away, and put it back.
it's not absorbent, so it's healthier. it should last about 10 years, so it's cheaper and better for the environment.
you sterilise it at the beginning and end of the period.

I just started using one and fully agree with you they are a great idea and I'll never go back to tampons. You should be taught about them when you are taught about tampons I agree too, when I was at school a woman from the company Tampax came to tell us about tampons, mooncup should do the same thing.

I do love my mooncup as well. Now that I use it I would never go back to tampons...no way...
It's better for me and everyone except tampons and pads industry ;)
I'm not sure why not everybody likes the idea. When I first heard of it I got so interested and ended up buying and loving it, but other women don't see it the same way. It might have to be the media message about femenine hygiene and people use to relate "unwanted" things to "disposable items".

I've been thinking about trying this for a while now. A friend of mine swears by hers, and I think it's sounds like such a good idea. I'll probably give it a go. Much cheaper (in the long-term) and healthier - sounds good to me! Thanks for the extra information that I've got from this discussion.

Well I've finally got round to trying it, and it's soooo great! I really don't know why I didn't try it before, and why didn't I discover it years ago?? All those months(years!) of wasting money on tampons, which were probably doing me much more harm than good. Not to mention environmental pollution.
It's one of the best products I've ever bought, and won't go back to using disposable sanitary products.
