Why can men understand how to use power tools but not washing machines?

This is something I find really odd (and yes I know it is not all men). However, there are many men who understand how to use power tools of all sorts, some also understand how the different components of cars work. They can use TV's, VCRS, camcorders even coffee makers but face them with a washing machine, a vaccuum machine or a dishwasher they claim not to be able to use them. If you try to make them do it (as at times I have needed the help) they make such a hash of it that you might as well do it yourself (and there have been many times when I feel this is deliberate). If you can use 1 electronic device surely you have the capacity to use others, it's just that you don't want to. Opinions?

LOL I know what you mean. ALthough I have to confess that it's a problem we don't have in our home. Actually my husband is really good with the washing machine. But yes, people often hide behind not being able to do something when they don't want to do it.

Thanks for your reply. Mine always says he's no good at it. Put clothes in, put powder in. turn the dial, push the button. Not so hard?

my husband says he doesn't know how to "load" the dishwasher !! And if you tell him to wash the dishes by hand, I swear he does them horribly so he won't be asked again. He does help with the laundry, I always sort/fold when he does help, then he says he did all the work... like putting clothes in and turning a dial is oh so hard !!
