Now doesn't this scare you. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258497,00.html You can read the whole thing or learn that people who sit in desk chairs too long are at move risk of DVTs then people who fly long distance in economy class. "Beasley said a surprise finding of the study was that "people are working for so long. We had people not uncommonly working up to 12-14 hours a day and being seated for that time."" "Some reported being seated on the job for 3-4 hours at a stretch, "reflecting the very sedentary nature of our work at the moment," he said." Do you fit any of these categories? How active are you at work. If you have a sedentary job, do you take time every hour or so to get up and walk around a bit?

Well fortunately my job doesn't require sitting (how I wish it did at times!) I am on the go either in the classroom or at the hospital. Now, the problem is my 'at home' time. Ahem, my time on the computer. Best bring home some blood thinners!!!

Well maybe it is time to set up the delay timer on the microwave, then in an hour, have it pop some microwave popcorn. That is a great reason to get up from the computer and walk around. Fresh popcorn and a cold drink.

Yes I work in an office and if I am real buried in a project I will sit for a longer period of time than I should. I try to watch the clock and get up every hour and walk through the office and stand for 5 minutes. Most days this is very easy, except if my phone is ringing off the hook or if the boss is breathing down my nect to get emails out or to get results for a project within a certain length of time. I have had an ankle swelling lately and I think it may be from sitting too long at my desk. I have even thought about buying some those stockings you wera after a hysterectomy to ward off blood clots. I know when I fly to Germany in a few months I plan to wear those stockings.

You are the same way I am, you lose track of time and the busier you are the easier itis to do. Yes, if your ankle is swelling, it sounds like a good reason to get up and move around more, before it turns into something serious. When are you going to the docotor for that.

I read that article the other day and at first I was a bit worried because I sit at this computer for a long time. But then I got to thinking, I do get up and walk around a lot. In the morning I keep getting up for coffee and all through the day I am letting something in or out(dogs and cats). Then every once in awhile I have to get up to see what they knocked over or break up a fight or pick up something gross.lol

I guess it is something we all should be aware of, maybe takig the dogs out for a walk would be a good thing for you and the dogs. I'll be the first to admit I need more exercise.

There is no danger for me. I don't sit still for very long anywhere. At home I am up and down. The longest that I am in one place is when I sleep. At a desk if I don't get up, I ususaly will twist and move my legs a good bit. I am a pretty busy lady in body and mind.

Wow that is no good that if these people are just sitting for this amount of time they have to do a bit of easy exercise and get up and move around that is what is taught in the business colleges for secretaries that I went to I do not understand why people just sit there and not get up and do something so that this will not affect them in this way.

When I was working as a programmer, there are times when I just lost track of time, putting my head down and then not realizing that 6 hours had passed and I had not moved at all. It was not part of the plan, it just happened.

I know of this already and its really not scary i normally try to move my body around to make sure the blood continues to flow through every part. People just need to remember to get up and move around every now and again

I think a lot of us know about it, but we tend to forget sometimes so we don't move around as much as we should.

This is very concerning to me. Many people do not realize how important it is to get up and move. Even if you are sitting at your desk you can move your legs by flexing the muscles and extending your legs. Having fitted many people for custom compression stockings or off the shelf stockings, I have seen many who just sit for hours and do not get any form of exercise. I always advised them to get up and walk around or do chair aerobics.

I like that ...chair aeobics...sounds like fun. I know, I have often wondered about what happens from sitting all of the time, I just took a new job, where sitting is not in the job description, so I guess this is not a concern of mine at this point, but it certainly is for a lot of people.

I had been wondering about this myself, thinking that my useage pattern on myLot might be unhealthy. I know it sure messes up my wrists and shoulders. I hereby resolve to get up and walk around periodically while posting to myLot. My other jobs are not sedentary.
