Is gardening beneficial for your health?

Absolutely! I love my garden. It's no secret that my Hubby was complaining about my constant care of my plants versus my lacking care for his welfare- IE: doing his chores, cleaning house, doing the dishes, cooking, bla bla bla. None of my chores are more inviting and enjoyable than caring for my plants.

When I go outside I get fresh air, sun, and feel a sense of being at peace with the world. Yes, little problems pop up like that outbreak of mold or aphids, but I enjoy coming to the rescue and offing the offenders. Once the garden begins producing, I feel as though I've gained something out of the fruits of my labor. It makes me feel good to eat the first string bean, or make my first cherry tomato salad. Not that Hubby will eat them - noooo...he's not a veggie-king of guy.

Seeing lovely flowers outside your window and smelling their fragrance throughout you house is splendid, too. No matter how tired I get deadheading my petunias, or combating mold spore, I have the satisfaction that I created something that will give back to me.

I also go into what I'd call a "plant caretaker trance": nothing else bothers me, I rarely think too hard, and I can feel my blood pressure dropping by the second. It's a great feeling!

Can I visit your garden? I don't have my own garden but I think that gardening is very healthy. Spring and summer gardening can be a great whole body workout to shed extra winter weght.

oh I don't know if somebody has ever made research about gardening and health but sure it is high recommended to keep busy and do whatever to use our time in a good and enjoyable way...I mean..we use less that 10% of our mind and we neurologist strongly recommend to keep mind healthy and to exercise it...hobbies are a good gym for our mind and gardening combines both being outside and doing something interesting and therefore we recommend it as a good and healthy activity...the rule is do what you like doing, do something that keeps you healthy and enjoy yourself..this is a good way of living and helps aging in the better way!!!

I wish to have my own gareden. I have condo and asociation is doing all, but I don't like people who they have hired.

I used to like doing a little pottering in the garden .. but I;ve never been able to do all the harder jobs ..

If I had my way I'd have astroturf over the whole garden and just a few pots .. it'd be great .. always green and just needs a sweep now and then .. but it'd cost £££'s thousands to do even a smallish garden .. still in the long run it would be cheaper than buying all the lawn mowers, fertilisers, weedkillers etc etc ..

I would think that any physical exercise would contribute to your health. Being tired is a sign that you probably had quite a bit of exercise and it's probably good to relieve stress also.

I find gardening very soothing, there is something very special about getting down there with your hands in the cool soil. I find it very spiritual. My back aches terribley, so I try not to over do it. But I still love it.
I spend 1 day a week in the garden.

i dont know if it is or not but my mom likes gardening and she says when shes doing it makes her feel good. its kind of like her therapy when she does it.

If you cultivate your earth well,I think it'll give it back to you well but at the same time I think it demands a great health conditions .
Maybe you need the help of a nice gardener;)

I believe gardening is good for your physical and mental health as long as you enjoy it. You will feel very stiff after the first few hours of work, so don't plan to overdo it at first, and a good hot bath is usually a good remedy for those aching muscles. Enjoy your work and you'll enjoy your results.
