The government has no intention of stopping it. GM foods are here to stay unfortionately. Companies like Monosato, General Mills and Archer-Daniels Midland want monopoly over the food supply.

Fortunately, there are 1000's of types of edible plants on this planet, and we only consume about 30, and 12 are staples in our diets. The people who grow gardens need to explore the underused varieties of edible plants to create a buffer against future shortage should a disease hit the mono-culture plague of our staples.

Americans are doing so in increasing numbers. I'm doing it to beat the high cost of herbs right now...I've a little Chia Herb Garden on my table as I am just a beginner.

If your soil has major issues, or your water-short, you can go the hydroponic way. Hydroponics grows large crops in small spaces with no soil and little water. Many systems are available, or you can build your own.
