I don't think so! Getting a letter in the mail brightens my day much more than getting an email, because more effort is put into it. There's also something to be said for being able to hold it in your hands, and look at it years later. Emails just don't have the same personality. I had a friend who I wrote back and forth with, but he's much better at responding to emails (you wouldn't believe what it took to get him to answer a voicemail, even, but emails he answers right away) than anything else, so we've switched to that. Sad, though, because I always did like seeing that envelope in the mailbox!

Letter writing and paying bills by mail has diminished with the increase of emails but, there is an increase is covers/envelopes, parcels and small packages to counter balance the losses. Many, many items bought on ebay are delivered by the USPS. Stamp collecting has actually seen an increase in the past few years and is still on the up-swing.

I have been collecting stamps and postal history a little over 48 years and I have a number of young people and adults that I am mentoring. The market has seen an increase of sales due in part because of the visibility and exposure on ebay.

Stamp collecting is still and will always be an exciting hobby enjoyed by many.

letter writing is not going the way of the dinosaur. it's going the way of the rockefeller the way stamps are going up in price for the mailing of a simple note or letter! the price of the us postage stamp is going up to 41 cents. i rarely mail letters, i only mail things that i can't shove through a modem cuz of my low income. i send out about a dozen e-letters a day. 12 times 41 equals $4.92 a day. that totals $162.36 just in letter writing bills. yearly that totals $1948.32... yikes

I only know older people who colect stamps anymore. Most of the stamps around here are just stickers as well.

I will send a letter if writing to a government office or something like that. I will also sometimes send invitations, birthdaycards and christmascards by ordinary mail. All other letters will be sent by email. It is much much faster, and also free.
