Does anyone actually like "The Scarlet Letter"? |
|
The book was such a pain to read and the movie was just as long and boring. The woman looked very manly too. I'm sure I might like it if there was actually any reason to like it. It's just so wordy.

If you can find a way to get into it, it provides great varying examples of human nature (from the cowardly father, to the manipulative and cunning husband, to the strong even when scared pregnant woman, etc.)

3. celestemichelle (346) | 3 years ago | I didn't appreciate the book until the second time I read it. I think the difference was that I took the time to appreciate the flow of the language, symbolism, and deeper meanings instead of focusing on the plot. I tend to speed through books and ignore details, and this is one book where the best of it is in the details.

| 4. blue_biru (10) | 3 years ago | a couple of weeks ago i had to make a presentation about the novel. I also had to watch the movie. but then by analizing 'the scarlett letter' i found it very interesting and deep. if u notice the setting of the film which is in the 18century, u'll see the deep meaning of how despair woman in that era. i talks about feminism, self discovery, how a woman struggle in 'fanatic' puritan society, and how humans are really close with sin (even a priest)and how they deal with the consequences.

5. karadiablo (284) | 3 years ago | Well I read the book several times, and you have to look past the boring overtone of the puritians. But once you can see the heart of this book, you fall in love with it. The heroin who is pursicuted for adultry, by the light of religion when it was religions mortal frontman who condemed her to life of misery, and shame. Through his weakness, the power and fortitude of a woman's soul is truley reflected. And that is something that to appreciate no matter the setting or time frame.

6. anna728 (578) | 5 months ago | No, I didn't like. I guess the message of it, if I remember it, was good but that could certainly be found elsewhere. I just found it so tedious, and as you said wordy. The story just drew on forever and a lot could have been left out.
