sippy cups

our pediatrician said that our daughter has to be off the bottle by a year. A few months ago we had gotten sippy cups which she did use but now she won't use them, she just chews on the tip. We even tried to get a different kind of cup that has a mouth piece similar to the nipple but she won't use that either. Any advice on how to get her to use the cup. She's not ready to hold a cup without a lid though. She's 9 months, if that helps.

Why does she have to be off the bottle by a year? I'm sorry if that seems nosy, but I've known people to give their children bottles till they are around three. In the next three months though there will be a big difference in what she will tolerate. My son wouldn't take any type of sippy cup until around ten months old and he was off the bottle by a year. I gave him his formula in a bottle and then when he switched to milk he got it in a cup. I have an 8 month old who wouldn't take anything but a bottle, but I keep trying every week or so and now sometimes she'll take a little water or juice from the sippy cup.

Our pediatrician said for her to be off by a year. I guess it has to do with tooth decay issues and he not using the bottle as a comfort. I just gave her some juice in the cup and she took some of it but only a little bit.

we bought her a different kind of sippy cup last night and I decided to take her off the bottle cold turkey. It is actually going okay. She had the cup last night and once already today with her formula in it. I will keep everyone posted.

give it time. she will get use to it. my kids all chewed on the tops of the sippy cups. just keep introducing it to her and she will get the hang of it. you still have plenty of time to get her off the bottle.

I got my daughter the cups that had straws, they are still sippys with handles, but the straw made a huge difference. I hope this helps.

If you are no longer giving her a bottle, she will eventually drink from the cup when she is thirsty enough. If she is allowed to have the bottle at the same time of trying to get her to drink from the cup, of course she will most likely refuse the cup. So I say be done with the bottle and just offer the cup to her. Have a good day. =)

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. The other thing is that she may not just be ready. We introduced my son to a sippy when he was 9 months old and he was sort of interested. When he was almost 10 months he just rejected a bottle.
