The is a relatively new hobby of mine I started last year .The apartment i live in has a huge back yard with lots of trees and a stream running through it. So i set up a few little feeders and thought i would see what would happen..so little by little i got some little birds chickadees so adorable and they chirped and waited happily each day for me at the feeders ..then i noticed a few pretty red birds and i had to search the Internet to find out the were ruby juncos then the blue jays came and then a few chipmunks..I love them ..by this winter i have become the bird lady of the street i feed many of my birds by hand my downy woodpeckers eat raisins by hand and my chickadees like sunflowers seeds and peanuts right for my hand and wait on my shoulder till i get them out of my pockets..but my chipmunks race to me and sit on my shoes and take there shell peanuts right from my fingers..its a sight to see let me tell ya..just today i spotted 4 new kinds of birds a black eyed junco and a beautiful yellow finch and a winter wren and a red grouse beak..as you can tell this has become my passion take pictures and just relax among the birds funny thing was i was terrified of birds after the Hitchcock film of the same name and now i love them..so tell does anyone else feed the birdsvirds and wildlife in there backyards and what types do they have?

I always thought bird watching would be cool. I watched birds coming and going to a feeder at a friends house and it was really cool. At my house though...hmmm...cat smorgasborg! LOL! I have a cat that loves to hunt, so I don't want to be supplying his needs by encouraging the birds to hang out! LOL

I don't have a any bird feeders because I own cats. My parents had a bird feeder for years. They had a great deal of enjoyment out of watching the different types of birds that would come. This included Rainbow Lorikeets & Adelaide Rosella, both very attractive birds.
Then a crow decided to check out the bird feeder. My poarents had a very aged cats, who was way beyound catching birds, he would just lie there watching them. My parents would give the cat a bone to chew on. One day they noticed the crow, who was coming for the seed, having a go at the cats bone.
The next day, the bone had disappeared. They couldn't figure this out. Later on, my father was out the front, and happened to notice the house opposite. There on top of the large, roof airconditioner, sat the cat's bone. The crow had pinched it, and dropped it at a high place where no one could pinch it.
This story is off the topic a bit.
