Do you buy second-hand stuff? |
|
I adore thrift stores and have for a very long time. I have also been known to attend the occasional garage sale, rummage sale or jumble sale. My family has always had garage sales as well. Do you go to thrift stores or garage sales? If so what is your best story about your purchases?

1. stateroad (668) | 1 year ago | I do not have a best story about the thrift stores or garage sales but I do shop at them. I love buying clothes especially at these places. The cheaper the clothes are the more I can buy. The clothes that people sell are in good shape and they are worth it.

blondbat (306) | 1 year ago | I love getting more stuff for less money. When I have a choice of getting just one thing for a certain price or getting many more things for the same price that are still quality items - Gee, let me think about that! More swag is always MY choice!! And I can always find good stuff.

2. mango_nectar (221) | 1 year ago | I love going to thrift stores, garage sales, etc. One time I was a member of this site called "Freecycle" where you post things you have that you don't want, or post things that you're looking for (it's a forum thing). Well anyway, I got a brand new futon from it that would have cost me over $100, and I got it for free! That was pretty cool. I've also found a lot of cute clothes, jewelry, fabric, etc for really cheap.

blondbat (306) | 1 year ago | I just recently went to the Freecyle site and located a local chapter. I haven't joined yet, but I am thinking seriously about it. I have heard that alot of people have gotten really great stuff! I will definitely think more about joining.

blondbat (306) | 1 year ago | Well, in my experience, I have always been able to find quite nice "name brand" and "designer" label things at a thrift store. My best item "score" was a pair of Cole Haan womens loafers that retail for $300 and I paid $5. Best part - they were never worn! I have gotten Jones New York, DKNY, Evan Picone, and more. As long as you know what you want and take the time to look, you can find anything.

writersedge (2721) | 1 year ago | We had three stores in town. I also had three friends with similar tastes. They all showed up to school in the same dress! The designer store dress was $150.00. The regular store dress was $25.00. The thrift store dress was $5.00. Each to their own socio-economics, but I thought the $5.00 was the best deal.

blondbat (306) | 1 year ago | Amazingly enough, the best deal I got there were expensive shoes that had never even been worn! Is there a particular reason you do not buy ANYTHING used? Just curious... no judgements.

6. sunshinelady (5295) | 1 year ago | I don't have a best story but I do love to go to those places and shop. I can spend hours rummaging through the stuff. I have gotten some very good bargains shopping in those places that I would never have gotten at a regular store like walmart, sears or stores like those. Also I like to talk to the people who are holding especially the garage sale. It is very interesting to talk to those people. I love to meet people and talk to them so I guess that is one of the reasons I shop at those places. Also the bargains I find.

8. fatookies (213) | 1 year ago | I love shopping at thrift stores and garage sales and have been doing so for thirty plus years. You can find some really good bargains if you have the time to look. I have found antiques & collectibles, lots of new items still with their tags, and really fun and funky stuff. My best friend use to think that thrift stores were all dusty dirty places and would refuse to go to them. I finally convinced her to go to my favorite stores with are all clean, neat and organizied. Well she has been thrift shopping for the last fifteen years. My best purchase has been my Lazy Boy recliner which I purchased over three years ago at a second hand store. It was in pristine condition and still looks good today. It is also one of my favorite pieces of furniture.

9. natalie1981 (1390) | 1 year ago | Yes I do buy second hand stuff but the only things I bought that were second hand were my figurine collection of forever friends. It's because they don't make it anymore, or at least, it's not sold in our country so I go to Ebay and search for those figurines which are mostly second hand.

| 10. jenn80 (64) | 1 year ago | I shop at thrift stores all the time. Probably 90% of what I own is thrifted, from books and housewares to clothes and furniture. I'm especially partial to well-made and vintage clothing, so this works well for me. I don't know that I have a best story, but I have picked up some wonderful vintage designer clothing, le creuset pots (very expensive new!), piles of books that I've wanted to read, and some great furniture for my home. Today, I picked up a lovely 1940s cast iron floor lamp for a few dollars - I'm delighted.
