When I was 15 years old my first job was in a grocers shop . we are talking 50 years ago, At that time we had a boy on a bicycle took special orders out to old customers, he had a bicycle with a very large basket on front ( like the old Hovis bread commercial on TV) anyway for a few weeks I had the job of going round these peoples home and getting a note of what the wanted delivered later that week, The old ( and infirm sometimes) were very grateful and used to give me some sweets or something as the felt I was doing them a special favour . I loved doing this as I am a people person and it gave me a lot of pleasure, One old man used to give me a bag of nuts ( almonds I found out later ) a few weeks later I was chatting to the boy who had this job every week, He told me that the nuts were from sugared almond sweets and that the old man sucked off the sugar and saved the almonds, I honestly thought he was joking, but it turned out to be the truth, there is an old coke goes around much the same idea as this and it is about chocolate peanuts, but I can tell you it was sugared almonds in my case, I still feel sick when I think about it,but at least I can laugh about it now lol has anything like this happened to you? and what would you have done if it had happened to you? xx

Ewww that is horrid, thankfully I don't like sugared almonds would put me off them for sure! It's like people who search for all the soft centres among the hard centres LOL! I was at summer camp once and thankfully it didn't happen to me but these horrible bullies put a live worm in this poor kid's hotdog, and he didn't see them do it. It put me off my hotdog and I left mine untouched.

I don't think I know of anything like that..But my brother and I were digging for fishworms one day and I dared him to eat a big grub..He said he'd do it if I would so we found 2 big wiggling grubs and on the count of three we popped them in our mouths..He closed his eyes tight and chewed and I spit mine in my hand an threw it up in the air behind me..My brother gagged and almost threw up...I pretended to gag..Later that day when I sat down to eat lunch my ma pulled at my hair and said"Look there daughter..you have a big grub just right for fishing in your hair."
My brother threw his sandwich at me and Ma sent him to bed for a nap telling him he was cranky..
Thank night my brother was sick and I thought he was going to die from the grub and I cried so hard I couldn't tell Ma what happened...I go sent back to bed and my brothers was sick with measles....I thought the spots came from the spots on the side of the grub...I was nice to my brother for a least a week..

Yuk, that's really gross! How awful for you! I'm glad to say that I am completely unaware of anything like this ever happening to me! If that old man had given me nuts with the sugar sucked off, I guess I would rush to the bathroom and scrub my mouth out very vigorously! Other than that i'd have to laugh at it too - as it really is quite funny in a gross sort of way lol.

Your story made me laugh. I'm sorry that it was at your expense but it just reminds me of how naive we are as children. The only thing that has really mad feel really sick food-wise was when I cooked liver, one of the only foods I despise while I was pregnant with my first husband. He is now my ex-husband as you will see why. I was still getting moring sickness, actually all day sickness. He asked me to cook liver for dinner. This was when I believed I had to cook a dinner every night for my husband. (I've grown up a lot now!) So here I am first touching this cow's liver, that alone made me feel sick to my stomach. Then as it was cooking, the smell of it, oh I can't even think of it now, was so bad. I got the dry heaves. I told him that he'd have to finish cooking his dinner that night unless he wanted something on the side with the liver and it wasn't going to be onions!

Well, I guess that the old man did not have any really bad disease because you did not get really sick. Perhaps it is better sometimes to not really know what we are eating. Just thinking about our food can make us sick.xx

Yes well I do not like to eat Kiwi fruit as it makes me feel very sick, it repeats on me and my tongue goes tingly I do not know the reason why it does this so I have to avoid it and not eat it. I love sugar almonds but no wonder it made you feel sick at the time as it would of me as well if I had heard this story and probably had to think twice before I ate them again from someone offering them to me.

Ewww, thats sicko! LOL.
I've actually had something that made me feel really sick happen at the time, although now I shake my head with pity.
When I turned 17 I ended up doing my retail training in a charity store. I was quickly trained up on the till, and thats where I was most days. Right outside the store was a garbage can.
One morning, not too long after opening, a man came into the store asking if we had any socks. I pointed him to the sock can and he chose three pairs, paid and left.
Right when he got outside, he stopped and looked through the garbage can. He lifted out a half eaten burger and started to walk away eating it!
Part of me was in shock that he'd do this, and part of me wanted to laugh hysterically LOL. He wasn't homeless and heck, he paid for the socks. It makes me shudder still lol, but I don't get that same feeling that I used to lol.

Oh YUCKS! That was really real? I can imagine how disgusted it must have made you! It is like telling you that you've eaten a cockroach just after you gobbled it down. :P
I am glad I don't recall any of such things happening to me.

hahaha that would have made me feel ill too. My mother in law once licked the chocolate off chocolate Brazil nuts and gave the nuts, unknown to him, to her husband. That always makes me feel queezy.
However, the only time i actually have been sick was at work. I work in a prison and i have to assess new enterents to look at their mental state. One guy came to me and tried to justify raping a 12 WEEK old baby because, he said she was wearing her nappy in a provocative way. I had to leave the room to vomit
blessed be

How gross! That made my stomach turn just reading it. I think I would have been disturbed for life.lol
Personally nothing like that has happened to me apart from finding a long black hair in a sandwich I was eating one day.
However, when my partner was young his brother dared him to eat some cat buscuits and he did. The thing was he liked the taste and would to eat them now and again. Luckily I don't have to buy them for him now.
I don't know how he could have done this as they stink!

Not me weemam. But for my elder daughter's 18th birthday I invited my folks to dinner. It was my 2 daughters, my then husband and Mum and Dad. I was cooking a roast but knew everyone would love the stuffed mushrooms as a first course.
I had one before I served them up and my younger daughter doesn't like mushrooms. Well, my Mum started to gag after she'd eaten it and eventually ran for the bathroom. Unfortunately her gagging set my daughter off then my Dad and then my husband. Mum was in the bathroom, daughter at the sink, Dad using his hanky and hubby chundering in the flower garden.
I was embarrassed and a bit cheesed off because I WASN'T SICK. They were all saying "it must be the mushrooms." but as far as I'm concerned there was nothing wrong with them.
The roast went down very well....and stayed down. LOL.

First I would question how grateful the man REALLY was. And I would be extremely disgusted for sure... probably nauseaus if I had already eaten any of them by the time I found out.

The instance I remember is when my little sister was about 3 years old (10 years between us)she was eating something in the back yard. I asked her what and she said basketti (spaghetti). Well I asked where she got it and she yelled "no, mine" and took off. I followed her and she went to the neighbors trash can. The lid was upside down and it had rained the night before. She was eating eathworms. SOOOOOO gross. I pucked my breakfast up.

Hello weemam. When I was in school, we had this integration/immersion program wherein we were sent to live in far-flung areas in the mountains. We were adopted into a house owned by a couple. There was no water supply and we had to go down to the river to get drinking water. When we first arrived we use to get water from a big open rubber receptacle placed outside at the corner of the house to receive rain water. We used this water to wash rice, fruits, clean fish and plates and kitchen utensils. Only later did we find out that the bottom of that receptacle was full of molds and dirt and droppings that get drained to it from the roof. I wanted to wash my digestive tract with disinfectant. Oh the horror! I only remembered today when I read your post. I had conveniently put it to the far recesses of my memory. God bless!
